The back cover of Love in a Broken Vessel describes this story as an epic journey of intimacy, rejection, betrayal and Hope and that describes this novel perfectly. If you are a fan of Biblical fiction, you will not be disappointed. Mesu Andrews is a master at weaving a story using scripture from books of the Bible, in this case, the book of Hosea. She skillfully researches scripture including research on how the people lived, dressed, what they ate, where they lived, how women were treated, and this just adds to her storytelling . She also includes a family tree to help you understand the familial relationships. Your heart will break for Gomer as she repeatedly feels abandoned and goes back to the only way of life that makes her feel in control. Will she find love in the end and how does God finally get her attention? You may have read the book of Hosea in the Bible but Love in a Broken Vessel brings this story of restoration to life. A definite must-read!

"Love in a Broken Vessel" is a powerful read, one that breathes with historical authenticity and heart-rending emotion, and has left me contemplating the vast love of God. Mesu Andrews does a fantastic job at bringing to life the story of the prophet Hosea, called by God to love a prostitute as a display of God's love for his chosen people of Israel. The characters are richly drawn, with much about them to admire while still definitely showing their human side as well. Gomer is a woman that you will quickly grow to care about, even as you may find yourself shaking your head at some of her actions and her often hard-heart. I love the author's portrayal of the various prophets you meet in this story, from Hosea to Jonah to Isaiah, and I can honestly say that I have gained a deeper appreciation of the cost that they paid to honor God's calling on their lives. I found myself asking if I could ever be as bold as they were, sharing God's message to a king who could strike them dead, telling people to turn back to God even if that may end up costing them their lives. I was not only fully entertained by this story, but I was challenged in my faith as well - and that makes for a worthy novel indeed.

Biblical fiction doesn't get better than this! I award this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

Love in a Broken Vessel is the story of the prophet Hosea and his wife, Gomer. Mesu's research and knowledge of the time and setting of the novel is vast. In her introduction, she points out where she strays or adds to the Biblical narrative in order to flesh out the story, but she always remains true the facts of what the Bible says.

As a matter of fact, Mesu Andrews is one of the few authors who earns my "Enraptured Award"! It took me three days, because of my busy schedule, to read through Love in a Broken Vessel. During those three days, my thoughts rarely strayed from the story as I thought about what had happened up to that point and what was to come. Never did I turn to the back to find out what happens, as I was simply too deeply entrenched in the story itself and I longed to watch it as it unfolded.

Mesu's writing is beyond excellent: Enough detail to put the reader firmly in Israel and Judea, but not so much as to distract from the story itself; the characters are true to themselves always, which is a really big deal for me as a reader; over and over, I was overwhelmed with the idea that not only is the story of Hosea and Gomer a cautionary tale for the Israelites (and for us today), *but it really happened*. I came away from reading this novel, as I did with Mesu's first two, with an overwhelming desire to read the Bible with fresh eyes and really understand the people behind the words that have become so familiar to me.

There aren't many novels that can do that, now are there?

Love in a Broken Vessel earns 5 stars. I received Love in a Broken Vessel at no cost via NetGalley in return for an honest review. My thoughts are my own.

Mesu Andrews in her new book, "Love In A Broken Vessel" Book Three in the Treasures of His Love series published by Revell gives us a fictional account of the Prophet, Hosea and his marriage to Gomer.

From the Back Cover: An epic journey of intimacy, rejection, betrayal . . . and hope

God gives Hosea a difficult command-marry a prostitute in order to show God's people the nature and depth of His love for Israel. When Hosea goes to Israel to proclaim the Lord's message, the woman God directs him to marry turns out to be his childhood friend Gomer. He finds her broken and abused, unwilling to trust Hosea or his God. But when marrying Hosea becomes her only means of escape, Gomer does what she's good at-she survives. Can Hosea's love for God and God's love for Israel restore Gomer's broken spirit?

With her powerful combination of in-depth research and masterful storytelling, Mesu Andrews brings to life one of the most complex and fascinating stories of love and forgiveness in the face of utter betrayal.

Mesu Andrews has once again written a wonderful, fictionalized version of a book of the Bible-this time it is the Prophet, Hosea. Hosea had a message to deliver to the people from God, obviously, that is what made him a prophet. But the real message that he brought to all people who read the book is found played out in his marriage to Gomer. Gomer is one unfaithful woman and Hosea keeps taking her back time after time. I must say if it had been me I would have walked away from her which is probably the reason why God didn't choose me for this particular task. The marriage between Hosea and Gomer is a reflection of the marriage between God and mankind. We are unfaithful but God is faithful and He keeps taking us back time after time. In "Love In A Broken Vessel" Ms. Andrews has done a superb account of researching many different sources to give us a cast of characters that most of us are probably not aware of.

Ms. Andrews gives us the Biblical portrayal of the man, Hosea, in a new way. There is quite a lot of detail that Ms. Andrews provides us that is not the Biblical account but is still historically accurate. I believe that this book should be read, not only for the Biblical detail, but for the extra story that brings new life to the man we know as Hosea. Well done.

While each book stands alone....you will want to read them all.....each has a new and refreshing story from what you have read in the past. My favorite was this one about Hosea....a different approach to who Gomer was and why. I love the weaving of Biblical history into the lives of those who were just like us!
