Amazing read.....I was enthralled from the first chapter until the last sentence. This debut Christian Historical Novel is well worth your time. The language is well written for the time period and moves along at a nice pace. Reading how Mary and Barnabas learned to fully trust and rely on God and on each other is engrossing. I recommend this book highly. Just make sure you have a few tissues handy. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is an honest review.

A Place in His Heart is an amazing read. It grabs your attention and imagination in the first three pages. I think that anyone would enjoy this book. You are transported to another time and place, but you are still able to understand and sympathize with Barnabas and Mary as they make decisions in their life based on their belief in God and His goodness. I was not able to put the book down.

Wow! What a Book. A true page turner. Grab the tissues because you will need them for this debut author. I had so many tears running down my face for the last three chapters, that I could hardly see, yet I couldn't put the book down. I had become Mary and was feeling her pain and her joy. This book is so well written. It is historical fiction at its finest. The dialog is written much like I think they would have talked in the 1600's. I loved the way the characters sought to live their religion. They strove to serve God with all their heart. This is a book I will definitely want to read again. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Wow! For a debut novel this one is a whopper! I was hooked from the first page and it only got better. I kept finding excuses to sit down and read. That is the kind of book I enjoy reading.

Putting your faith in God and following His leading is not always an easy path and there were many times in this book when either Barnabas or Mary though about giving up, but didn't. Picking up and leaving not only everything you know but your country to go to a new country that is still being formed can be a frightening thing but with their strong faith and belief they were doing the right thing, Barnabas and Mary set off on their journey.

Barnabas "Barney" and Mary did not have your conventional relationship. He was a widower with 2 small boys who was deeply grieving his late wife and Mary was trying to find a way out of marrying a man her father picked. Thus the arrangement worked for both of them.

I love how the author let the reader in to all the emotions and trials this couple faced. There were times when I could have happily slapped Barney and told him to wake up but the author did such a wonderful job of portraying the man and his inner turmoil that I understood where he was coming from. Mary, on the other hand, did not understand. She did everything she could to make him happy and her frustration was portrayed so well by the author. Make no mistake, Mary is a strong woman!

I was sorry to see this book end. I had come to love Mary and Barney and their story isn't over yet. Readers will find at the end of the book a few pages by the author where she reveals this book was based on her family history and what she found in doing her research. Just in reading that I hope there is another book in the series that continues Barney and Mary's story. It will be fascinating!

I highly recommend this book, especially if you are a history buff. This book is rich with the history of the time. I cannot wait for Book 2 in the series!

    A Place In His Heart : A Novel ( The Southold Chronicles - Volume ! )

    By: Rebecca DeMarino

A Place In His Heart is the first book in The Southold Chronicles series. I truly enjoyed this story and Rebecca DeMarino has did a fantastic job of penning her story and the characters. A Place In His Heart had me hooked from the start and I could hardly put it down till the end. Mary is a young lady who wants to only marry for love. Barnabass wife passed away and left him with two small boys to raise. Now he loved his wife dearly and cannot get over her and no one could ever replace her in his heart, but he needs someone to help raise his two boys. How does Mary feel about Barnabas knowing he cannot get over his dead wife? Will Mary want to leave her family and travel to another country with Barnabas and his sons? Mary is so sweet , but can she love and stay with someone who does not love her? Will Barnabas ever give his heart to Mary? This is a very heartwarming historical romance and at times I felt tears in my eyes.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review, which I have given.
