I truly enjoyed The Merchant's Daughter! I thought the book was a surprisingly quick and easy read that kept me happily flipping pages for hours.

A Christian retelling of Beauty and the Beast? LOVE IT! I love they way this book comes together. The main character, Annabel, has courage and a huge heart, and she has a desire to read the Word of God for herself. Even though she can't relate to people around her (her spoiled and oft times cruel family included) or the men and women in her village who listen to a Hell and damnation Preacher who offers none of the kindness, hope, and love that is shown throughout the Scriptures, she still sees goodness and kindness in others around her. Even when her brother tries to marry her off to a cruel old man, and she becomes an indentured servant in the home of a seemingly hard and monster of a man, Lord le Wyse, Annabel perseveres on and works hard to become a good servant in payment for her family's neglect of their duties.

Lord le Wyse is a wonderfully deep character, haunted by a dark and painful past, and a disfigurement he cannot run away from. He has shunned all beautiful women as hard and cruel because of his past, and is therefore never truly at peace with God or himself.

This is a beautiful story of pain, despair, loss, hope, new beginnings, and a love that passes all understanding.

These books truly are the absolute BEST versions I've ever seen of the classic fairy tales!

Melanie Dickerson brings together the romance of fairy tale and the harsh reality of life - blending them together seamlessly to tell a beautiful tale of Love, Healing and Forgiveness.

You think you know where the story is going and you think you know precisely how it's all going to end up because the stories are following the classic fairy tale we all know... Right?

    No.

Melanie Dickerson has surprising twists and turns all through the book that you will never see coming, all the while still weaving in bits from the original fairy tale. And you will find yourself so entranced with the story, you may not even realize it until later.

"The Merchant's Daughter" once again deals with some hard-core themes. And once again Melanie Dickerson does so with class and diplomacy. There is no sugar coating but the descriptions are done in the best possible taste.

I recommend these books to anyone and everyone! In fact, I plan to introduce them to my daughter, instead of the more traditional fairy tales!

Personally I never understood how such tales became so very popular — especially in a time where magic and witchcraft was so suspect. People from the times described originally in these tales did not delight in magic and sorcery, they hunted down anyone suspected of it and dealt them a quick and harsh death. So why tales filled with such magic would ever have become popular, I have no idea. Unless it was simply the temptation of the forbidden — we humans do seem to have a particular weakness for wanting those things that we cannot have.

Melanie Dickerson has told these stories in such a realistic way — retaining the romance and excitement but adding in truth. And in my opinion, it makes them that much more appealing! I would rather my daughter have realistic fairy tales to grow up with and not ridiculous stories that could not possibly have happened — that I will one day have to tell her are entirely false and quite impossible.

Any woman would greatly enjoy these stories of adventure, love and danger.

And with Melanie Dickerson at the helm, you may know where you'll end up but you can never accuse her of being predictable.

Happened upon this book and feel that it was a gift from God. This story is used to teach about love and forgiveness with truth from scriptures. It holds the readers attention and teaches values from God. I bought this book for my daughter since she was not currently reading anything and thinking she might have something in common with the story since she is a daughter of a business owner too. The fact that it was a Christian book made it perfect. She came to me after only a few chapters and said she loved it! I asked to read it when she was done and I loved it! I then bought The Healers Apprentice and after only two days my daughter finished the book and now I am waiting to read it too. The era of the 1300's makes this a new adventure in the background of the story. It was beautifully written to bring in scriptures without feeling like it was being pushed on you to accept truth. I would love to meet the author so I could tell her KEEP WRITING!

I loved this book so much I read for six hours straight without even realizing it. My husband finally reminded me to go to bed and I finished it in the morning.

I'm a fan of romance books, and generally don't read books set in a medieval time period, but I became a fan of Melanie Dickerson when I read her other book The Healer's Apprentice.

The characters were so well written, I could feel their emotions and the storyline moved along propelling me through the story. I look forward to reading more books by Melanie Dickerson.

This book was provided to me by Zondervan for review purposes to give my honest opinion. I'm pleased to say I highly recommend The Merchant's Daughter.

    What a keeper.

Melanie Dickerson's inspirational rendition of Beauty and the Beast is unforgettable. With style and grace, she has created wounded characters scarred so deeply, I feared she'd never be able to heal and redeem them. But save them she does in a most masterful, yet poignant manner.

Annabel Chapman is beautiful inside and out, yet plagued with the insecurity of her own human-ness to the point where she distrusts her own logic and faith. Ranulf le Wyse is a man scarred through heroism and unable to see his own valor or honor through the pain and torment of his anger. A more deserving couple in need of God's healing forgiveness and love I've not seen in ages.

Set in Medieval England, The Merchant's Daughter wraps you within the cloak of simpler days, among simpler people, basking in a simple English countryside. Though the setting may whisper simple, the characters are far from simple. Complex and deeply injured, Annabel and Ranulf fight through their worst fears and learn trust in the Lord who loves them and protects them beyond compare.

Keep a box of tissues beside you. The raw honesty that touches the pages of The Merchant's Daughter will leave you dabbing at tears filled with emotion. I await the next book from this author!
