A quick word of warning, if this is your first book by Julie Lessman, then you'd better be prepared to lose some sleep, shed some tears, scream and laugh and get frustrated at the people that become like a real family. The O'Connor family draws you in to their home and soon you won't ever want to leave. Sure there's heartbreak, hardships and trials, but all in all, they're people so full of life and love that their journey will become your journey and their tears your own as well.
All the characters in this book are weaved together beautifully and Julie writes with such passion that you can't put the book down. Faith goes through a lot, and you can't help but cheer for her throughout the book as she gets battered by the storms of life, and yet she stays strong.
This is not a story to be missed and I highly recommend these books to all lovers of Christian romance, although I wouldn't encourage young teens as Julie is a master of passion and desire.

In the first book of the Daughters of Boston series, Julie Lessman opens the story with a dramatic 'BANG'! And she keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with emotions that rival the ride of a roller coaster. I loved A Passion Most Pure because Julie shows the inner struggles that we as human beings go through at some point in our lives, including those of us who love God and want to please Him. She delights in taking her characters and putting them in situations that make them do some serious thinking, ultimately bringing them before the throne of Grace. And then she throws in a heaping of romance just for good measure.

The book is set in 1916 Boston during WW1. This is the story of Faith O'Conner, the oldest daughter in the O'Conner family. Faith loves God with all of her heart, but she also loves Collin McGuire, the cocky rogue who stood up for her when she was a little girl. The problem is, her father has forbidden her to have anything to do with him. Not to mention, she knows that he is secretly seeing her sister. But when things change, and Collin's interests are suddenly directed her way, will she be able to withstand the longing that she feels in her heart for Collin, or will she decide to follow God's leading? Or can she have both?

You'll have to read it to find out!

A passion most pure is a epic novel that spans several years including WWI. Set in the city of Boston, we are introduced the the O'Conner family. This book centers around the two older sisters, Faith and Charity. The older sister Faith is a strong christian woman who takes her faith in God very seriously. But when her sixteen year old sister Charity begins seeing the man that Faith has been secretly loved to for years, that faith in God is put the the ultimate test.
I really liked Faith, she was strong and spunky. In the beginning we find that she is a strong Catholic christian who knows what God wants for her life and is willing to risk rejection for those values. But her faith is sorely tested and like any other human being, she turns her back on God for a little while, while she runs through the gambit of human emotion. I could really relate to her and her relationship with God.
Collin I didn't like at all. When we first met him he's a drunk and a womanizer, and we find out that he's courting Charity just to get Faith out of his system. While does learn to trust God I really didn't find anything heroic about him.
The author did put a lot of God and redemption within the story, all the characters struggle to find it, which I thought was a great move on her part. In reality, we struggle through life and most things don't come easy.

The down side, I didn't need a description of Charity's naked body, I thought that that part was very inappropriate for a christian book. And there was a lot of discussion about Collin and his baser nature. I got it the first time, didn't need to have it discussed again and again. I believe the story would have stood very well without all this. There was nothing sexually explicit, but I can understand why some people would be upset. These are not things that you would expect to find within a book that is published under a christian publishing company.
If you have teenage girls, be cautious with this book, you will probably want to read it first.

This is an absolutely incredible book! I seriously couldn't believe how passionate, fun, and heart wrenching this book was! Once I got into it I couldn't stop reading until I was finished!!!! I loved that it is bigger than most books so it makes you feel as though you really get to know the characters. If you love romantic, historical fiction than you'll love this book!

Wow, what a book! I so enjoyed meeting and getting to love the O’Connor family. Patrick and Marcy are such wonderful parents and they run a home that is precisely how I pictured a loving family to be like. They are completely devoted to Christ, each other and their children. I was surprised how one man could come between two sisters so strongly, Faith and Charity, but because of petty jealousy on Charity’s part there really is no real relationship between the two girls. Faith is older and is completely surrendered to God while Charity resents her and lives to persecute her. Patrick and Marcy become aware of how Charity feels and do everything they can to defuse the situation, but Charity refuses to cooperate and it leads to her do foolish things that are both harmful and destructive. I have never disliked a fictional character as much as I disliked Charity, but that only illustrates the talent Lessman has in creating such a character.

I didn’t like how fickle the main characters are in deciding who they love and the constant triangles at work within this beloved family, but much of it stems from sibling rivalry which is realistic. It’s also proof of what happens when unforgiveness exists in one family.

There are three things you are guaranteed when reading this book. One, you will NOT be able to predict how the story goes. More than once I was convinced I understood how each relationship would conclude and it never ended up that way. Two, you will grow to love the O’Connors as if they were a real family. You will laugh and cry with them. You will experience their heartaches and joys as if they were real people and you will root for them throughout their journey. Three, you will experience the love of God through their eyes and it will impact your heart in new ways.

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the story is how protective Patrick O’Connor is of his daughters. That really blessed me and stayed with me through this story; it was one of the most precious things for me to experience in the story (much more so than any romance). I also loved seeing how certain characters experience a change in their faith that makes them stronger and gives them new perspective. Some of these changes were so tangible they touched me deeply. Faith was diligent in her love for God until ¾ of the story where her heart gets broken in betrayal and she decides to turn her back on God for a brief time. I also know how that feels, but loved seeing how God would not release her and she finds her way back to her Beloved. I also deeply enjoyed the Ireland setting in the story.

I won this book a while back and finally made time to read it. This author is very special to me and now I have fallen in love with her books as I knew I would.

In this book Mrs. Lessman has captured the truth about what it is like for a young Christian girl (at any age or time period I might add) to draw a line in the sand and stay pure for God and her future husband (in this day and age the line is almost non existent) instead of throw your morals to the wind and just doing what feels good at the time. No harm done, right? Wrong and Mrs. Lessmen shows that following God's path and not our own leads us to happier marriages and lives. Not that our lives wont be harder by doing so but just much better in the long run. Anything worth having takes a lot of effort. That message needs to be out there, and I believe Mrs. Lessmen has done it with this book.

I would recommend this book to the young and young at heart!! Please read.

This is an amazing book! I loved the romance and redemption in this story and I fell in love with the O'Connors.

The O'Connors are a big Irish Catholic family living in Boston in 1916. The first book focuses on Faith, a girl perpetually in the shadow of her younger sister Charity because of her beauty and who's secretly had a crush on Collin McGuire for years. Collin's nothing but trouble and forbidden by her father. Faith and Charity are opposites; where Faith tries to do what's right and please God, Charity thinks mainly of herself and what she wants. When Faith finds out Collin is secretly dating her sister, she accidentally sets things in motion that will change their lives forever. Who will Collin choose? What will happen when America enters World War I?

Faith is a great character! I could really identify with her, but Charity made me so angry! There's a lot of drama involving them and I don't think I've ever seen so many fights! Each of the characters felt so real and had flaws aplenty. I like that we see the tough choices Faith has to make and her struggles with temptation and choosing God's will or her own. I loved Faith's parents, Marcy and Patrick. They have an amazing love story and Julie just released it as an e-book called "A Light in the Window." I'm reading the next book in the series now and will post a review of it in the next day or two. I can't wait to read about all of the O'Connors!

A Passion Most Pure is Julie Lessman's first book. She has written several more since this first one! I found this author from a contest that I saw on Mary Lu Tyndall's (another one of my favorite authors) blog. Julie Lessman writes a series on an Irish family, the O'Conners. Oh, what a family it is! There is some intense sibling rivalry between the two oldest girls, Faith and Charity. They are constantly fighiting over men. The O'Conner family consists of six kids (and counting, not that I peeked ahead into another book or anything ;)), I think, but I may have miscounted. There are so many children yet Julie Lessman does a GREAT job of giving each one their own personality-and all the children certainly have that of their own! All the drama, all the siblings, all the handsome men...and it's all Irish. One contest has never gotten me so excited about an author I hadn't discovered yet!

Anyway, A Passion Most Pure is the story of how Faith falls in love-each book in the series is about one of the children. She met a man named Collin, and she knew from the minute she first saw him that she loved him. The problem is, he's pretty much the town tramp, and Faith is a strong Christian. Faith has to channel her self-control in storehouses (not literally) for him- 'cause he's a hottie. :) To make things more complicated, Charity, who is about four years younger than Faith, is courting him behind her parent's backs. And Faith knows it. She even catches them kissing many-a-time! To add to that, this story is set around WW1, and Collin decides to leave for war after he gets engaged to Charity. The O'Conner clan moves to Ireland, where Faith gets a new job and falls in love with her supervisor-who is almost twice her age! This causes more disagreements between the family, and when Faith catches her supervisor Mitch cheating on her-with Charity-she loses it and travels back to Boston. Where she runs in with Collin a few weeks later as he is coming home from the war.

Let me just say, Julie Lessman's theme with her writing is "Passion with a Purpose", and she shows it well. Not only is there plenty of romantic passion, there are spiritual lessons that lead the characters (and sometimes the reader!) to more passionate relationships with Jesus Christ our Savior. This is a book that I throughly enjoyed, and I can't believe it was the author's first. I am so glad that I discovered her writing after she has already written two or three series, because I am going to go through these books like water! Even better, Julie Lessman's website offers several contests that promote and give away her books!

This book is completely aggravating and yet enjoyable at the same time.

I can't explain it, but it seems to me Miss Lessman definitely knows how to create a story, a really good one at that. I fell in love with the O'Connor family right off the bat- minus Charity. They are a family built on their faith and strong values and that makes them awesome.

I felt like I really identified with Faith, the female lead and eldest O'Connor daughter. I understood her not wanting to settle for an ungodly man and I adored her unwillingness to lower her standards. She's now my fictional role model. Her relationship with God and her love for her family is so great and though her flaws, I think she amazing.

Forgive me while I gush a tad longer... Reading this book was kind of like watching a movie in a good way. I felt swept away into the action of the O'Connor household. I laughed when they laughed and I cried when they did. I have never felt such a connection with a fictional family.

All that being said; no book is perfect. Though Miss Lessman promotes a pure passion and abstinence (hence the title, "A Passion Most Pure"), there is several heated...erm...passionate kiss scenes scattered through the book with the parents, a few with Charity and Collin, and lastly between Collin and Faith. No worries, nothing is ever descriptive but it did make me skim the page and move on quickly.

In sum, I was captivated with Miss Lessman's world. Nothing ever seemed happy-go-lucky for too long, there was always some twist or drama that I never saw coming. If you like good writing, stable characters, a wonderful setting, and romance piled in one- you'll enjoy this one. :-)

I sat down to read A Passion Most Pure and was immediately drawn in by the emotions and happenings in the book. The series, Daughters of Boston, are about the daughters of Patrick and Marcy O'Connor, a very much in love Irish couple who have a houseful of children.

Faith O'Connor is the oldest of the O'Conner children and has been enamored with Collin McGuire since they were children, but she is determined to find a love that will please God and be in His will for her. She sets her heart against Collin and the feelings she has for him, but her heart seems to have other ideas.

Collin McGuire is not the same chivalrous young man that he was before his father's death. When his dad died, he changed and so did his relationship with God, his mother and women. Instead of having a reason for living, he was just living it up however he could. Women are drawn to him like moths to a flame, and he takes every advantage he can. When he realizes that he is attracted to Faith O'Connor, everything changes, especially the relationship he has with Faith's younger, more attractive and loose sister, Charity.

In A Passion Most Pure, Faith, Collin and even Charity learn more about themselves than they every thought possible. Will any of them find the love that God has for them? Can they overcome the tragedies in their past to find the hope and love for their future?

I really enjoyed this book. There were intense moments of passion and there were intense moments of spiritual significance. Both are important in our lives. I've heard some people don't love the amount of passions Lessman writes into her books, but I love it... because it is REAL! First let me just say that I was completely wrong about this book. I admit it. After reading some reviews on Amazon about it being too "edgy" or "passionate" or something along those lines, I didn't really plan on reading it, but my sister and mother both loved the book so I thought I'd give it a try.

I really don't know what people were talking about. Yes, there were scenes with the mother and father and them talking about love, but the scenes ended before anything like that happened. I mean there were some things that some people might not like - like the lust certain men felt in this book - but I loved the redemption story. Although I didn't particularly care for a lot of the kissing, in my opinion nothing went overboard and I think the characters were realistic.

I finally see what people meant about Charity! Not going into specifics, but let's just say I thought she was very mean and selfish at times - I'm looking forward to reading her book, A Passion Redeemed, to see how/if things change.

There were some shocking surprises in A Passion Most Pure that I did NOT see coming! I was so shocked and it literally brought tears to my eyes (even now, as I'm thinking back on it, I'm getting misty-eyed). One thing in particular about this book that I really loved was that many Bible verses were quoted and faith was a big aspect of the book.

While I don't recommend this book for younger readers, I think mature readers who enjoy historical romance will also enjoy A Passion Most Pure.

This was possibly the most maddening book I have ever read. I hated Charity until near the end, and have never wanted to slap a character so badly. I didn't like Collin at first. I mean, he was a heart breaker and womanizer. I didn't like him until the middle of the book. I liked the father, Mr. O'Connor, for the most part. He was a very sturdy, lovable character. The mother, Mrs. O'Connor, was also a sturdy character, yet a bit emotional (NOTHING wrong with that. It fit her character very well, and was never overdone, like I have seen others do.). Faith was a sweet, yet feisty, character. She fit my thought of "Irish" perfectly. Lots of temper to go with the red hair. I loved (most of) the characters. And the plot! I have never screamed at a book like I have this one. It took me four days to read it, because I'd get mad and put it down, and then I'd start pacing, arguing with them in my head (Crazy, I know). I give this four stars. I genuinely loved the book DESPITE the absolutely frustrating characters! Now I need the second book! (I WILL get it soon.)

I bought Julie's amazing beyond amazing book planning on savoring it. From the reviews I read you see, it seemed quite thrilling and so I had hoped to drag the splendor out. That didn't quite work out like that though.
From the very first sentence, I was hooked! I know, I know. I say that about a lot of books but I am dead serious about this one. I stayed up ALL NIGHT LONG just to finish it!
It was just so amazing and passionate and wonderful I just couldn't put it down! I LOVED how God was such a huge part of the story and I just loved the passion!
Oh and the characters! I loved Faith so much and felt so close to her by the end of the book! I just loved her faith in God and she really taught me something about staying true to Him. If you stay true to Him, He will stay true to you and I loved how Faith's story turned out!
As for Charity, I am really excited to read her book! As much as I wanted to strangle her at times, I feel there is more to her and I really want to know what that is. I am dying to read Elizabeth's book though! (Or I should say story...)
I think out of all three sisters, she is who I will end up being able to relate to the most. I love to read (duh!) and so I love and feel an immediate connection to book characters who also love reading. Especially when that character loves the romance department like I do. ;) I don't know if that is just me or whether or not I should be worried but hopefully, you know what I mean! I always have my nose stuck in a book and I am just really excited to read her story!
Anyway! Julie Lesssman is definitively a new favorite author! She has a real gift she does! A Passion Most Pure was a total "Wow!" book and you HAVE to pick it up! It is filled with romance, unsuspecting twists, amazing scenes, wonderful characters, and yes, God. I love this book so much and hate thinking about anyone who likes a good Godly romance missing out on it! I am so excited to read the next books and this is a romance that will be in my head for a very long time! LOVE THIS BOOK! Don't miss out!

Wow! I stayed riveted to this book till the very end. Lots of twists, turns, and surprises. The author takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. I loved the O'Connor family. This is not a series for a reader seeking a simple, superficial story. This explores a lot of very real life, not always pretty, often jarring emotions. I am glad I took the chance and bought the whole series.

The last time I read an historical fiction book with Irish characters that made an impression on me was BJ Hoff's Emerald Ballad series. I was certain I would never again read a story that would embed itself in the recesses of my mind like that one...until now.

I won A Passion Most Pure months ago in a drawing at Overcoming Through Time-With God's Help. Yes, I am ashamed to say it really was months ago. In my confused mind, and I can only contribute the delay to that, I convinced myself I didn't have time to read it because I had other books that took priority.“Official” ones that I needed to read for review purposes. Well, let me say I will never delay again when I have one of Julie's books in my hands! She is the most passionate writer about Christ and His love for us that I have ever read!!!

In A Passion Most Pure, the complexity of characterization is phenomenal, the depth of spiritual and emotional insight extraordinary. I was so lost in this story that I finished it in 2 days. That's 477 pages of intense passion, and I don't mean just that kind of passion. These characters are Irish. Seriously Irish and seriously passionate about everything. A roller coaster ride of emotions - love, joy, anger, sorrow, love, hate, forgiveness, grief - did I mention love yet?

My mind is still reeling! I saw myself in so many ways, in so many of these characters. If you manage to read this book and it doesn't prompt you to pick up a bible, driving you to the feet of the One who loves you with the utmost passion, then you need to read this book again!

It is 1916 at the beginning of this novel, an unusual time for Christian fiction. I feel the number of stories set at this time will increase in the coming years as we approach the anniversary of the first world war. There are four novels in this and the next series of this Irish Catholic family, living in Boston and Ireland.
Faith O'Connor has had a childhood crush on Collin that has developed into a full blown infatuation. But her sister, Charity, only 16, wants Collin for herself. Faith is a polio survivor whose twin sister died from the disease. Faith is a strong Christian while Charity merely goes along with her family’s beliefs without having a relationship with God, of her own.
Julie Lessman’s books are full of “Passion with a Purpose” and this big book, so make room for time in your schedule because you will not want to put it down.
Warning: Julie Lessman’s books are addictive. The good news – as of this time there are four more books you can read about the amazing O’Connor family after you have finished this great story!

I have long been an avid, nearly insatiable reader. While growing up, I would chronicle the books I would one day introduce to my daughter (who is, thankfully, just as avid a reader as her Mama). It is time to add Julie Lessman to the list with Lucy Maud Montgomery and Jane Austen.

I get frustrated when I figure out a plot line shortly into the book. Hooray for Julie Lessman and the O'Connors! SO many twists and turns! Her characters are so relatable. The relationship between Faith and Charity reminds me so much of my relationship with my younger sister. While it is obvious there is rivalry between the two, they also love one another fiercely. With a brood like the O'Connors have, it is no wonder parents Patrick and Marcy spend so much time in prayer.

Some Christian fiction can take a turn into the sickie sweet or overtly naive. Julie writes about things real people face and, in my opinion that highlights all the more the importance of clinging to God and His Word. Inspiring, passionate, and touching, this series of books will long be a favorite.
