I loved this book from beginning to end. So interesting, i couldn't stop reading. The characters and the plot as well are both so capturing! This is by far one of the best christian romance I have ever read!

What a wonderful book. This is a new author to me. It was really refreshing. The flow of the book was wonderful from beginning to end. In turn, this made it a quick read. It was a joy to see the main character change from start to finish. There were many intriguing side characters that added alot to the story as well. I would love to see a follow up book if there isn't already one. I will definitely read more books written by this author.

The book show's that just because you aren't born with a golden spoon you can prove yourself as Thane did, and win over his in-laws,and Mariette grew to be a good Preachers Wife.

This story caught my interest right away. The characters were interesting but the storyline was somewhat predictable. I appreciate the author's treatment of how the main character struggles to understand a relationship with God.

This was an enjoyable though predictable story .Very gentle to read at the end of a full week .I am English so it gives a small insight into American life in the fifties.

It took me probably half the book to start getting caught up in the story line. I nearly put it aside a couple of times in the earlier stages as it seemed juvenile - reasonable, I guess, as it was written about a very young couple who fell in love. But eventually I found myself getting much more interested and finished the rest of the book happily enough.

The year is 1960 and the setting is in the Southern states , Mariette Putnam has just returned home from spending the past four years of her final schooling at boarding school. Home for the summer, Mariette is torn between the choices that both her parents want for her .
Her mother wants her to become a girl of social standing and to work herself up on the Social ladder , marry the right man, join the right clubs, do the right activities. Her father on the other hand, wants her to go to college and get a degree ( an education) and then a job,
This all stops when Mariette's world starts spinning and she falls in love ,She is the Juliet.
Meet Thanye Scott, working as a mail room assistant for Mariette's fathers firm . Mariette and he hit it off immediately falling head over heels for each other. He is the Romeo.
Mariette and Thanye are from two different worlds , hers is the rich and wealthy , his the poor and hardworking.
Though as we know love knows no boundaries , in order for these two to make things work they must overcome all the obstacles and hindrances that are chucked in their path and in order for their love to be truly accepted must work together on their marriage and lives and prove to Mariette's parents that no matter Thanye's standing in the social class chain, he is worth their daughter's hand in marriage and love.

Born into priviledge and educated in a private girls school, Mariette Puttnam faced an uncertain future. In 1959 girls were culturally expected to marry finding fulfillment by boosting their husbands careers. Only a few went to college and those that did usually finished with a Mrs. before their name, not a M.A. after it. Thus when Mariettes father suggested she go to college, her social climbing mother balked. Their disagreement threw the young graduate into a quandary until a chance meeting changed everything.Written in the first person like a diary, This Fine Life conveys the challenges Mariette and her loved ones faced. Throughout, she searched for deeper meaning in life, struggled to find faith, became baffled by circumstance, but responded with love, trust and faithfulness. All the while, she wondered where God figured into everything. Her answer came in a climatic roadside event.Eva Marie Everson has written a compelling, page turner that delves into some of the harder issues of life. While it began somewhat slowly, the pace picked up as the plot unfolded. Do not toss this one into the library sale barrel. This book was well worth the read.

I absolutely loved and devoured this book. Eva Marie Everson has created characters that will steal your heart. Mariette is asked to be something she knows nothing about. For love's sake, she tries her best, but best isn't always good enough, at least in the eyes of the small town she's trying to win overLogan's Creek, where everyone knows everything about everybodyor so they think. Mariette's young husband, Thayne, becomes the new pastor of the town and its inhabitants, from the four sisters who are the descendants of the original Logan, who founded the town, to the crusty Minerva and a control freak who signs his paycheck. I just hope Everson continues the series. She sparked my imagination and I want to know the stories of the others within Logan's Creek. Novel Journey and I give This Fine Life a high recommendation.

Author Eva Marie Everson has found her niche' in the Christian southern fiction genre. Although in every respect a story of it's own, the southern flair present in her earlier book Things Left Unspoken has been further polished and refined in This Fine Life. This Fine Life is a charming accounting of how one encounter with a young man named Thayne Scott, an employee at her father's manufacturing company, forever alters the life of a young woman named Mariette Puttnam. Mariette is at a cross-roads. Mama and others in her life believe that now that her boarding school days are behind her she should settle in and concentrate on finding a husband. On the other hand, there is the lure of college and doing more with her life; her father's wish. Faced with the option of making one parent happy while disappointing the other - in steps Thayne ... The attraction to Thayne proves stronger than the opposition of her family - so she neither marries well, nor attends college - equally disappointing both parents.I had never before thought of the struggles of a pastor in his first years of ministry - let alone that of his wife. And if I had thought about it, I still would have assumed that the wife would share similar spiritual goals with her husband. It would be too hard not to ...This book provides a great glimpse into the life of a mismatched pair during their first years as husband and wife, and as a ministry team. Worth reading, and at times entertainingly funny.

The description on the back cover of this book is pretty vague, so I really had no idea what to expect or where this story would go. I really liked that about this book because watching this story unfold page by page was so much more enjoyable than knowing the whole story ahead of time. And what a wonderful story this is! I want to keep my review of This Fine Life vague just as the publisher did on the back cover because I think part of the joy of reading this story is not knowing where God will take Mariette next or how he will work in her life.I think one of the things I liked so much about this book is the fact that I could relate to Mariette in so many ways. She is so real and I think a lot of readers will see themselves in her. I got a great deal of comfort from that. I also got a great deal of comfort from Mariettes friend Missy. We all need a friend like her. There were so many other wonderful characters and personalities in this story. I just loved the overall feel of this book.I dont usually care whether a story is told in the first person or the third person, but I am really glad this story is told in the first person. This story being told from Mariettes perspective made it even more intimate, emotional, and real. It just would not have been the same written any other way.I really loved This Fine Life. I just cant say enough good things about this book. There was nothing I did not like. There was not a moment of boredom. The story was never slow. The characters were wonderful. The setting was beautiful. I just loved it! I highly recommend it to anyone. It will definitely go on my favorite books shelf.

Mariette Puttnam has lived a life of privledge, now graduated from an all girls school, she is finding herself. Her father wants her to go to college, but her mother dreams of building her future for her, with a husband and children, just as she has. But Mariette is not quite sure she is ready for marriage and doesn't know if her father's footsteps are those she wants to fill. Although having a life of privledge has its glamor, Mariette has always felt as though she just didn't fit right in any circle, until she meets Thane Scott. As soon as their eyes meet love happens, only Thane is not from privledge. He works for Mariette's father. As Mariette's heart stirs, her parents anger stirs and she is banished from seeing Thane, but that doesn't stop their love from growing. They leave, marrying and beginning a life together, a life of a different privledge, a life Mariette has never known. As we watch Mariette grow into a woman, we see Thane release his past and head for a future in serving the Lord. As Thane serves as a Pastor, Mariette doesn't really understand having a relationship with the Lord. As each one blossoms into who the Lord created them to be, we see their love really grow. We see life as it is in the 1960's. We watch them struggle, and go through loss, but they are never alone. We see blessings come as they grow. As they grow we see Mariette's parents accept Thane for the man he has become. He has proven there is more than just a fine life, there is a purpose and plan for us all. I loved this book. I loved how Eva wove these characters together and knit them into a family we can all relate to in one way or another. These characters come alive and you begin to see the Lord move and work in their lives. I loved the part where Mariette finally comes to see the Lord for who He is, her Savior. Little things make a big difference. As a writer, as a parent, and as a Christ-follower, I believe and teach this truth. Eva Marie Eversons shining new novel, THIS FINE LIFE, demonstrates it on multiple levels.Mariette Puttnam, a recent graduate of a proper Southern boarding school for proper Southern girls, returns home for the summer of 1959. Lifes inviting road stretches before her, with conflicting opinions from both her parents as to where it should lead.
