Revell Courting Morrow Little

Morrow Little is haunted by the memory of the day her family was torn apart by raiding Shawnee warriors. Now that she is nearly a grown woman and her father is ailing, she must make difficult choices about the future. Several men--ranging from the undesired to the unthinkable--vie for her attentions, but she finds herself inexplicably drawn to a forbidden love that both terrifies and intrigues her. Can she betray the memory of her lost loved ones--and garner suspicion from her friends--by pursuing a life with him? Or should she seal her own misery by marrying a man she doesn't love?

Upon deciding to read Laura Frantz's novels, I was hesitant to read this one; when a plot is entirely about various men pursuing a girl who can't make up her mind, I get annoyed. However, that is not how the novel played out at all! There is comparatively little courting going on, though a number of men would do so if she would let them. Rather, it is the story of a young woman returning to the wilderness after several years in the colonies, and how she overcomes the ghosts of the past and learns to live in a harsh land. Morrow grows considerably through the book - from a shy, wilting Philadelphia belle afraid of her own shadow to a strong frontier woman.
Unlike many novels about the American Revolution, which typically center on the fight between colonists and Redcoats, Frantz looks closer at the war between the Blue Coats (Americans) and native tribes, who were largely allied with the British, and how the Americans broke many treaties without punishment in order to destroy as many of the Native Americans as possible. As experienced through Morrow Little's eyes, this novel shows the unfairness to the Indians by many of the Americans in their war to take control of the country, and the unfairness to any white person who would live with them (for they surely must be either a traitor or a captive held against their will).
Overall, it was so much better than I expected - the story of life and war, not just a romance that is wrapped up at love's first kiss. Yes, there are the magical moments as she goes from distrust to falling in love, but it continues past the wedding ceremony to learning about each other as a married couple amidst a land fraught with danger. It is a novel of great depth reminiscent of "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Ghost Fox". 5 stars.

I've just started to read some of this authors books and I am truly enjoying the style and content. This story takes place in the 1700's and I enjoyed learning of the trials of blending two cultures. Native Americans and the new Americans. The author has you captivated and throws many surprises in the story and of course the Christian content always refreshing. I would recommend Courting Morrow Little . A very enjoyable book.

Laura Frantz has now officially secured a place in my "Top 5 Favorite Authors" list. I absolutely love her books! "Courting Morrow Little" was wonderfully written, the characters were captivating, and the I was drawn into the story from the very first chapter.
It's hard to say whether I preferred this story to Laura's first book, "The Frontiersman's Daughter". Both were beautiful stories of love, loss and strength. The setting is beautiful and it makes me feel like I'm right there in the wilds of colonial America. If you're a fan of historical fiction, DO NOT MISS THESE BOOKS!

I loved this book! I read a lot, and it's not often that I stumble upon a book that I cannot put down! It was romantic, filled with action, and contained great characters. What I truly enjoyed is that Morrow married in the middle of the book and we were able to see how her life was after. Most romance novels end with a marriage or proposal. This was a refreshing change from past books I have read. I look forward to reading more books by Laura Frantz.

Courting Morrow Little is a wonderful tale about following God and your heart. I loved how author Laura Frantz portrayed the Shawnee along with those in and around the Fort. Truly an intriguing story!
Morrow Little has a tragic past that she is unwilling grant forgiveness for. After moving back home with her father, now an adult, she is pursued by many men of all ranks. Even while she lives outside the fort, her friends keep her up to date on the fight against the local Indian tribes. Yet her father, the pastor of the town, has befriended the very Shawnee warriors that everyone is trying to be rid of.
I really wasn't sure how this book was going to end because of how Morrow cannot decide what God's will for her life is. Let me just say I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it! There is nothing more I can say without giving the whole story away. This is a great weekend read!

I enjoyed this book tremendously. The reason being is the book just didn’t end abruptly after a proposal or marriage. It was very different than most books. The book engaged you through trials and joys. It reminds you of what opportunities in life you will miss out on if you do not forgive and allow God to change your heart. You miss out on so many things if you can’t forgive. I am not going to explain the book anymore becuase I don't want to give away anything. Please read it for yourself.
I normally do not write reviews on books but I couldn’t stop from writing one on this book. I can’t wait to read more of her books. Thank you for an excellent book I read this book in one day as I couldn’t put it down!

This is Laura’s second book, & the first one of hers that I’ve read. This story certainly earned her a place on my “I must read every book she writes” list. Morrow's story was so breathtakingly beautiful that I read the second half of the book in one setting! Morrow sees tragedy early in her life then she’s sent away from home for her own protection, but despite those hardships, she blossoms into a lovely young woman both inside & out. This isn’t a fluff story where everything just falls into place; thank goodness! She struggles with forgiveness, with meeting expectations, with discerning which friendships are real, with finding who she really is in Christ, & seeing others through the lenses of God’s forgiveness. My heart took every step of this journey along with her. I thrilled in her victories, felt the cruelty of decisions that seemed set in stone, & sighed deeply as her eyes & heart were opened to her soul mate. Her father’s protection of her purity was admirable, & the way he modeled forgiveness leaves a lasting impression. I loved Laura’s balanced portrayal of people & appreciated that she looked beyond skin color to focus on the heart. I fell in love with Red Shirt’s desire to do right & with his tender warrior’s heart. As a native Midwesterner, I loved the historical details & the scenic descriptions that welcomed me home. Morrow’s courage, spiritual growth, dedicated service, thrilling adventures & knock your socks off romance make her a heroine worthy of an annual re-reading (something I very rarely do)!

The characters were very appealing. And the story wasn't over when Morrow decides who she loves and gets married. You get to follow their married life and see how things work out. Also it was interesting to learn about Native Americans from the southeastern part of the country.

This is the first Laura Franz book that I read, and from the outset I wasn't sure how interested I'd be in the topic. I am not a fan of Colonial American fiction, and prefer the late Westward Expansion Era 1880-1900. However, to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Not only was the history meticulous and effortless, but the the landscape was captivating. I fell in love with Kentucky, at least as it was then. The plot was believable with a few interesting turns. The characters were real and honest, sparking my curiosity. The drama was flawless as well. Lastly, I would add the I was uplifted in my spirit and inspired to spend time writing myself afterwards.
I truly recommend this book to anyone who likes history, romance, or would like a trip to another place for awhile. I also recommend her other novels based on Kentucky, the Frontiersman's Daughter and the Colonel's Lady, both different than this one, but almost equally enjoyable if not better.

Okay, I may need a second for my heart to once again resume it's regular rhythm... Whew!
Rarely do I have the pleasure of reading a love story as beautiful as this one. Laura Frantz has a skill with words that very few authors can replicate. Her ability to make me feel as though I'm in the midst of a cold, dark forest, or at the edge of a trickling lake is a wondrous feeling to experience as a reader. And if that isn't enough, she can pull my emotions along for the wild roller coaster of a new relationship between a husband and wife.
I truly believe that the Christian fiction genre is blessed to have Laura as part of its wide repertoire of talented authors and superb novels. If you're a fan of historical fiction set during the early beginnings of our country that's paired with authentic, three-dimensional characters, Laura Frantz is the author for you. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. :o)

This is one of those stories that stays with you for a long time after you finish the last page! Extremely well-researched, with exquisite descriptions and eloquent words, Ms. Frantz surrounds the reader in the adventurous, romantic and dangerous world of colonial Kentucky. Her characters are real and likeable and don't get me started on her hero, Red Shirt, a half-breed with the heart of a lion and the tenderness of a true romantic. If you want to take a journey to another time and another world that will enthrall you, touch you, and make you swoon, then this is the book for you.

Heartache seems to know no bounds for Morrow Little and her loved ones. Living with the pain of past tragedy and the present conflict between the Shawnee Natives and the British and American troops, the future is something Morrow not only avoids, it is something she fears. Love seems to be a distant dream shadowed by the harsh reality of her life. Or is it?
Desired by many suitors for reasons ranging from compassion to power, Morrow instead finds love in the most unlikely of situations. Just when she finds joy, love, and begins to settle her spirit, Morrow is faced with circumstances that once again rip her world apart.
A story truly inspired! Laura Frantz has written a wonderful story of forgiveness, mercy, faith, courage, and most of all love right from the heart! From chapter to chapter you will go with Morrow through adventure and trials, love and hurt, joy and fear, and find yourself laughing and crying, and turning every page to the end.
Two thumbs up! This book was sent to me by Revell Publishing for the purpose of book review.

This is a great historical romance with themes of love, forgiveness, family, tolerance, endurance, hope, among others. Laura Frantz is an excellent writer and I can't wait to read her next book. Frontiersman's Daughter was excellent as well, but Morrow's story I believe was more compeling even yet. If you love a good romance and a good cry, this is a book you will not want to put down.

This is Ms. Frantz’s second book, her debut being the spectacular “The Frontiersman’s Daughter”. Laura did an interview about CML on my blog in early June. Ms. Frantz has the most beautiful writing voice out there, a gorgeous, poetic style that is haunting.
SPOILER ALERT There were several deaths, one being very significant but was hinted at early on and throughout so that it was expected. The main loss was handled very well and in a meaningful and realistic manner.
CML presents a lesser-explored side of the American Revolution – those people who were more sympathetic to the British and to those native Americans who chose to side with them. It takes one talented writer to make me, an 18th century story world patriot, feel sympathetic to the characters’ plights in CML, but Laura Frantz accomplished that!
This had an extremely satisfying ending – the best I have read over the past two years, the other being The Frontiersman’s Daughter. All the loose ends were tied up in a way that made sense. Ms. Frantz kept this story moving through the middle all the way to the end. There was no sagging middle here yet she did give breaks from the action, also.
This book was so well-received, it will be offered as a Crossings book club selection. I expect it will be nominated for awards as The Frontiersman’s Daughter was, also. Congrats Laura!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have not read another Christian book that is like Courting Morrow Little. I could describe what happens, but many have already written a synopsis. The language is rich, details are fine, and the setting is a luxury. If you enjoy historical novels with Native Americans, this is a book you do not want to miss! Would also make an excellent reading group book.
