I'll be honest, I struggled to get through this book. I enjoyed the antics of Leonora, but I found the other protagonists generic and stiff (Scott appeared to be way too perfect). The plot seemed very far-fetched and very paint by numbers.

The Backstage Pass series takes us behind the scenes of a Hollywood television series, and Stars Collide features the story of Kat and Scott, the stars of the show.
Janice Thompson knows how to write romantic comedy! Stars Collide was funny from beginning to end, and I truly liked the characters. I did find the story to be a bit unbelievable on several points, and it seemed highly unlikely that so many Christians would be working on the same television show in Hollywood. But once I got past some of those initial "disbeliefs," I found myself more and more invested in the story and interested in the outcome. If you like to laugh, you're sure to like Stars Collide! [3 stars]

Ever watch a sitcom and wonder if there’s chemistry between the leads that the paparazzi hasn’t caught onto yet? Kat Jennings is secretly head-over-heels in love with her co-star in the top-rated comedy show Stars Collide. It’s perfect, because that’s also the part she plays. But when the producers decide to kick it up a notch and have the secret obsession take front stage, Kat discovers that Scott Murphy feels the same way about her–in real life.
Kat lives with her eccentric grandmother, who used to be a Hollywood star in her own right and still seeks the spotlight. For instance, why don’t tourist maps of Hollywood have her house on them? She’s certain fans still care, though (sadly) most don’t recall her name. The author’s promise is Love, Laughter, and Happily Ever After, and she delivers all that in fine form in Stars Collide.
I picked up and read this book a while ago while it was on free for Kindle. However, it’s worth every penny and I think you should go out and buy it!

LOL moments make this book a keeper

The author did an amazing job weaving classic 1950s Hollywood with a current sitcom. And the characters were so real. I would love to take Kat to coffee and just talk. Add in the humor -- oh my -- it's priceless -- and a book I hoped to enjoy became one I adored. Can't wait to start book two!

From the first page you will be smiling and enjoying yourself. Stars Collide is a heart warming story about two sitcom stars Kat and Scott. Their onscreen romance quickly becomes an offscreen romance. The Christian values that Kat and Scott share are quite refreshing! It was nice to read about a Hollywood that was held to higher standards and morals. Kat's grandmother Lenora also has a large role in this books as an old hollywood starlit. She brings humor and grace to this entertaining story. If you are looking for a book that fills you with old hollywood style, love, and laughs, then this is the book for you!

I have to admit that I had a little bit of trepidation before diving into this book. I've had one other experience with a Christian/Hollywood-type story, and while it was good, it wasn't a book that I would recommend on a regular basis. Well.....the same will not be said about Stars Collide! Wowza (as Kat would say)!! This was the most fun I've had with a book in ages!
While the main story really was about Kat and Scott, the two stars on the set of Stars Collide, the character that stole my heart from the beginning was Grandma Lenora. What a hoot she was!! The underlying story of the ongoing debacle with the maps was hilarious, especially the IHOP scene. I could not stop laughing after I read that! :o) And her love of all those beautiful dresses was so sweet. She appreciated what the past from Hollywood had to offer--from clothes, to friendships, to movies, and everything in between.
This book had a dash of old Hollywood glamour, some new Hollywood romance, and a whole lot of laughs to go along with 'em. Janice's style of writing was so enjoyable, and I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a book! I've read a couple of her older novels (mostly by Heartsong), but this was my first experience with one of her full-length novels. I have no doubt that I will be back for more!

I just want to say that I probably would have given this book a higher rating, but it took me about two weeks to read it (a crazy-long time for me) because of school, and I hate taking so long to read a book. The book wasn’t slow for me to read, I just had so much going on at the time.
I did love the characters, plot, and style. Janice just has such a sweet writing style! The ending was lovely and I loved how the reader was kept in the dark about the surprise right until the end! That was awesome. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what the rest of the series is going to be like! (And who the main characters will be…) Once again, Janice has come out with a heart-warming, lesson-teaching, faith-filled, fun-to-read book.

Stars Collide by Janice Thompson is the first book in the Backstage Pass series about Hollywood actress Kat Jennings. Star of the popular family sit-com Stars Collide, Kat's character Angie has fallen head over heels with co-worker Jack, and life has imitated art as Kat has fallen in love with co-star Scott Murphy as well. Kat's grandmother, Lenora Worth, was a star during the Golden Age of Hollywood, and seems to be still living back in that time, much to Kat's dismay and Lenora's memory seems to be failing to the point that she mistakes Jack's proposal to Angie as the real deal and spills the news to the press. Kat and Scott need to figure out if their romance can survive the stress of publicity, and Kat discovers a secret Lenora has been keeping for far too long. Thompson's Christian romance novels are filled with unusual joy and exuberance. Her characters are always firm in their faith and use it to guide their actions, but she keeps them from becoming boring or cliched. The dialogue is always filled with humor and heart, and Stars Collide is no exception. The ending is a nice surprise, and she neatly sets up the next couple of books in the series through some interesting smaller characters.

Janice Thompson has brought Hollywood right into your front room with her book, Stars Collide. You see the stars, Angie (Kat) and Jack (Scott) on and off the stage. As they deal with the paparazzi and Kat's eccentric Grandmother, a Hollywood oldie goldie. I think Grandma Lenora almost stole the main spot with her wackienss, fun loving, off beat and unusual, quirky, erratic behavior. Thompson takes the readers on and off the stage in this delightful book. Janice makes the scene changes smooth and easy, you don't get lost in switching back and forth on and off the set. The author makes you feel like you are really backstage on a scene set or setting in real life with the characters. The author deals with Alzheimers, father abandonment and other issues all through the book. Deals with true love overcoming the obstacles that real life brings our way with God's forgiveness and grace. This was a very fun book to read.

The plot line of this story is an interesting one. A rising television star lives in a Hollywood mansion with her grandmother, an aging actress with Alzheimer's onset. Characters are rather one-sided, without flaws. For instance, Kat, Scott, and Rex seem to have an unending supply of patience when dealing with Lenora's antics. Lenora lives more in the past than the present; however, at the book's end, she seems completely aware of everything going on, which causes some confusion.
A cute bit used throughout the novel had one character stating a line from a film and another responding by giving the actor, film title, and date.
The end drags a bit. It seems to read more as a comic book. If you have the ability to suspend your disbelief, this would be one to read.

This book was fantastic! I absolutely LOVED everything about this book, that Janice Thompson penned. She is an amazingly seasoned author, and she knows how to take characters and blend them perfectly with her plots and turn out a novel that will keep her readers captured-hook line and sinker. She is one of my all time favorite authors, and she can make me laugh, cry and everything in between with her books!
In Stars Collide, the characters are hilariously perfect for their rolls. Kat Jennings is the heroine and what a heroine she is! She is ultimately dealing with issues of losing her mother at a young age, her father walking out on her and never coming back, and being raised by her grandmother, a past Hollywood legend who is suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's. Grandma Lenora is a sweet character, who keeps the laughs rolling with her comments and thoughts from the 50s, when she was the rising Hollywood star. And, Scott Murphy....oh lala! THAT is one Hollywood actor that is G-E-N-U-I-N-E! He's everything a man should be: witty, charming, thoughtful and most importantly, a man of faith. He helped Kat on many occasions understand that God is the ULTIMATE script writer and that it is up to Him to set the next scene.
I don't want to give too much away! I think that if you love laughs, you love romance, you love a tad bit of mystery, then you should check out this first book, Stars Collide, in Thompson's newest series, Backstage Pass. It's 5 star worthy, high recommendations and laugh out loud entertainment! I am currently awaiting the release of book 2, which can't come soon enough for me. Well done, Janice!

Like all of Thompson’s books this one will make you laugh. Not as much as the others she’s written, but you’ll still find many parts funny. There’s a zany grandmother who dresses in clothes worn by Elizabeth Taylor and other older famous movie stars. She also plays a game of movie quotes with her granddaughter throughout the book. Loved that!
The setting for this adventure is unlikely but oh how I wish it were true! It’s a TV show based on family values and morals! The two main characters of the sitcom run a talent agency and are encouraged by the child actors to fall in love. The off-stage couple Kat Jennings and Scot Murphy find themselves playing the part in real life as well. Confusion becomes chaos when Kat’s grandmother—a long ago Hollywood eccentric star—thinks the wedding planned for the show is a real wedding.

"Stars Collide" is a humorous Christian romance with a serious side. The characters get themselves into a very funny situation, but the book also deals with Kat's grandma's Alzheimer's disease, the pressures others can put on you, and Kat's fear that Scott will abandon her like her father did.
The characters were sweet, funny, and engaging. The details about Hollywood life brought the story alive in my imagination. I liked that a character pointed out that the real love story begins after most romance movies and novels end...so I was a little disappointed that this novel ended were romance novels typically do. Ah, well!
The main characters were Christians, and their faith affected their everyday life (so there were some brief prayers). There was no sex. There was a very minor amount of "he cussed" style of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this well-written, humorous romance.

After reading several of Janice Thompson’s books, I have found that she simply cannot write a bad story. Everything she writes that I have read has been something that has stayed with me. One thing I am really noticing about Janice’s books is that she seems to select a certain mood or feeling for each of her stories. She doesn’t just decide on a plot, she wants the book to have a certain feel to it, apart from her other books.
In Stars Collide the mood is one of simplicity (at least that was the feeling I got). The plot is a simple one. There is just the right amount of drama and not too much going on, which is a good thing. It’s actually a refreshing departure from most of the books I read. Stars Collide has the feel of a simpler time, thanks in large part to Grandma Lenora. Looking back on my initial impression of the story before I read it, it would have been hard to believe that a contemporary story that takes place in Hollywood could have such a nostalgic and calm feel to it. Of course, there are plenty of modern day influences, but in Kat’s and Lenora’s world, life is good and television is still wholesome. I love that! I also loved seeing a familiar friend from the Weddings by Bella series. Nice touch, Janice!
The world of Stars Collide is one that is filled with romance, friendship and a strong bond with God. It is a world that I have enjoyed visiting – a lot. I really loved this book, but I knew I would. It has some pleasant surprises and plenty to make the reader smile.
