I don't always enjoy books writed by males. Male writter usually don't express the emotion that a female writer will, but I did very much enjoy Flabbergasted, I couldn't wait to get to the next page and was very sorry to see the book end.
Enjoyed the relationship the character Jay had with his clients and friends and everyone that crossed his path. Loved the humor and view of Jay everyday life.
I will in the future remember the author, Ray Blackston.

This book is hilarious, tongue in cheek, and you might get your toes stepped on! Loved the metaphors like lobster hell and nature's etch a sketch. Have read and reread it.

Well written and good content. Bought also for college age girls and they loved it. It was especially good for women who feel called to missions and can put the guy, girl relationships into a healthy perspective. Good gospel content with lots of humor.

Flabbergasted is a great and refreshing novel. Its message is very deep and deals with many issues that go on with youth in churches. I agree that it is a laugh-out-loud book, really entertaining, and also surprisingly deep.
I highly recommend it!

At first I was put off by the facile, simplistic writing, but I stuck with it and soon I was in the groove and just enjoying it for what it is. An easy, popcorn read. The characters are not the type I would want to get to know so perhaps that is where the problem lies. For a younger person this may be a great read.

I 'm so glad I read this book. Some of the story takes place in my neck of the woods. The way the author describes the areas, I new just where he was writing about. I've had some good memories and great times there myself. I liked the Christian values the characters showed and that they could still have fun too. Enjoyed the read.

I've seen many churches used as singles "clubs" but never like this. Woven with humor and seriousness it causes a person to evaluate what really is important. Relationships with God and with others are strengthened. Savor each page of this story...

This book is hysterical! I appreciated Blackston's sense of humor so much! It is always nice to be able to read through a book and really connect with the characters and laugh along with them. You will be telling your friends about this one!

In Flabbergasted, I found a delightful story reminding me of a mixture of Charles Martin's southern settings with Rene Gutteridge's quirkiest characters in her Boo series. The story has good twists and turns and is not predictable. I was surprised to find some of Blackston's characters show up in the pages before and after the actual story.
Jay Jarvis, a stockbroker on his way to the top, has been transferred to Greenville SC, He's told that he can meet some nice girls at church so he visits a large Presbyterian church. Life changes for Jay when he's invited to join "the singles" on a holiday weekend at the beach. He finds a typical group of singles -- ranging from the shallowest husband-hunting females who rate the city's churches on a spreadsheet to the most serious theological students who speak in terms no one else understands. Jay does find a good friend in Steve, an engineer, and a female of interest in Allie -- a missionary home from the rainforest.
If "the singles won't commit" theme seems to be the working mantra of the churches attended by this group of 20's something young adults, an after thought would have to include the fact that the churches haven't really committed to them, either. They seem to be looking for love in all the right places (churches), but they could miss The Lover of their souls.
I liked the characters and stories with not obvious endings and the redemption that eventually comes in clear statements. I had to order the remaining books in the series -- and have not been disappointed.

I wasn't sure what to expect from what I thought was chick lit from a male author.....it was different! It is definitely less emotional; I guess because the main character is male as well as the author, I didn't experience the longings, losses, or joys as empathetically as I would have in a chick lit book. Still, it was very fun and enjoyable.

A Delirious Summer was the first Ray Blackston book I read. Flabbergasted takes places a year previous to that book, but this doesn't matter much. Flabbergasted promises to be just as funny as that one! I have read many Christian romance novels, and you can always tell the ending after reading the first few pages. Not so with these books! They are full of surprises on every page, and I find the male reactions to the females very funny.
The women are a bit stereotyped but, since the books are really enjoyable to read, I don't mind!
