Gospel Light Preparing for Adolescence: How to Survive the Coming Years of Change -audio CD

Here's a great way parents and young people can prepare for adolescence together. These eight CDs can be used at home, on a special trip together or even during regular car time. Dr. Dobson's casual conversational style helps both of you feel comfortable discussing difficult and important topics. For parents, he gives up-to-the minute answers to the questions today's teens and preteens are really asking, and he offers advice to parents on what to expect from adolescents, how to talk to your kids, and how to use the CDs to get your kids talking to you. The majority of the CDs are directed toward today's young people, covering topics they care about - inferiority, drugs and alcohol, sexual development, and more - in a way that captures their attention and respect.

I 've listened to the first four cd's, so I haven't completed the series. I wanted to listen to them by myself, before I get my kids involved. As parents, I think we stumble through parenthood and we do the best we can. This program is such a great tool to help us, parents, guide our pre-adolescents, but also takes us back to those years when we were teenagers, and helps us relate to our kids even better. I have been recommending this program to parents at work and friends. I wish my parents would have been armed with this tool when I was growing up, it would have made things a lot easier for me.

My husband took our soon to be 13 year old out for the weekend and listened through all the CD's. It is a very helpful resource on how to talk to your teenager about the changes their body will be going through. It takes the burden off of the parent for how much and what type of information to give. I really like Dr. James Dobson and his way of presenting the information.

I have listened to the first and last CD and have planned a overnight get- away with my oldest daughter in a couple of weeks. She is twelve and in 7th grade. I am looking forward to this weekend and I think the CD's will be a great way to open up communication on the adolescence issues.

This is an excellent resource and worth much more than the cost. At 11 and 14 my girl and boy listened to this with us on our summer vacation. When we were in the car for long rides, we would listen to it. My kids have been taught many of the same principals, but there was much more. Being taught by Dr. Dobson was perfect. He sounds so smart, knowledgeable and caring on the CDs, my kids called him their hero! It got to the point where they would ask for me to "put in Dr. Dobson" as soon as we would get in the car! I could not have been more pleased with the content of the CDs or the way they were presented. At the end I gave my kids each a cross to wear ad they both took a purity pledge. Wow.

We purchased this CD set to review with our children. So far we have listed to the first CD and love it. We listen to a section and then discuss it later. You really cannot listen to too much of it at once because their attention span is so short. What is great about this is that they are hearing this info from someone other than their parents, so they actually do listen. And since we are listening to the CD set in small pieces, I can bring up the same concept over a few days to reinforce what was heard instead of overwhelming them with too much info at once. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the CD set. I hightly recommend this to parents. Our children are 11 and 15. The 15 year old has already heard this from us, but again it is great for her to hear it from someone else.

This is a great resource for parents who feel a little lost or fearful at how to approach sensitive topics about growing up. Dr. Dobson put my family at ease by speaking so unabashedly about topics outside our comfort zone. He opens the door so that further discussion can take place between parents and kids. Our 12-year old son tried to feign boredom at first, but we could tell he was obviously listening and engaged. He even seemed relieved and "chatty" after listening to the CDs, as though a burden had been lifted. These are important topics and Dr. Dobson addresses them with just the right amount of humor and concern. I'm so grateful that I heard about this product; it was money well-spent!
