Abingdon Press A Mile in Her Shoes: Lessons from the Lives of Old Testament Women--Participant's Workbook

A well-known saying is that you never know what someone is like until you walk a mile in her shoes. Now is your opportunity to walk with and be blessed by six servants of God: Deborah, Rahab, Hagar, Abigail, Hannah, and the widow with the oil. It is the author's goal that you experience the intense level of belief and commitment that these Old Testament women possessed and be encouraged and inspired in your own faith journey. Six weeks of daily lessons and group meetings for discussion are planned. A leader's guide and video kit are also available separately.

This material was used for a new women's Sunday School class that I taught. It was structured so that you read a small portion each day and then discuss what you've read when you come together on Sunday. My class did not feel overwhelmed because they were able to complete the homework. The DVD helped bring the point across. I would definitely recommend this study to others.

We really enjoyed the other book in the series, Finding Balance, and thus are disappointed with this study in comparison to it. We found the language pejorative--especially in regard to Rahab, and we found the questions way too difficult for easy sharing. However, we had good attendance and lots of conversation at the meetings. We really like the 6-week format, and we went to our Bibles to flesh out the stories. We will continue with other Sisters courses.

I am starting a new Bible study and this book is excellent. By studying the women of the old testament, we can relate to many issues that are so much like our own. We are studying about leadership, using Deborah's lesson; infertility, using Hannah's lesson, etc. The lessons are good starters for valuable "how to live life now" after walking a mile in another shoes.
