Rob really came through. One could tell, I think, as the story goes that God was with him from the beginning. His grandmother was a great influence on him also. This story I am sure could be a life story of many children that has been, so to speak, thrown away in to the system. God can do wonders with these children, if they had a chance and have some one intervene for them with God's help. I would recommend this book to anyone. Maybe even a child who questions their life. This book is a keeper.

The book will give you a good understanding of what some kids go through that are abandoned. I really never understood the deep need that these kids have to be accepted. It was inspiring and uplifting to see God work in his life.

This is a wonderful book, and ought to be read by every teenager and every adult alive today, Christian or non. What a beautiful story of God's merciful love, what hope one can find in reading a book like this and how incredible that this man's life is what it is today because of God's help!
Many people have NO idea what their foolish actions (in teens it often comes out as bullying, meanness and unfriendliness and in adults it often shows as a lack of love toward the needy) do to the hurting hearts of others. And what HOPE there is, in a real-life story like this, that out of misery and awfulness, something GOOD can result with God's love.
Get a hold of this book today!

I cannot imagine the heart-breaking anguish three-year-old Robbie experienced as he realized that his mother had left him in care in an American orphanage. With no determined or date of return, his mother drifted in and out of his life as he struggled to grasp hold of any sense of normality, security, or love.Though some form of stability was provided by regular visits from his maternal grandmother and a caring housemother, the deep emotional wounds left by parental abandonment led to feelings of deep rebellion, anger, and dejection. Once his mentally ill mother gave up her parental rights Robbie held out hope that his wealthy paternal relatives would adopt him. Their rejection cut him to the quick and plunged him into a state of desperation during his teen years.Castaway Kid chronicles the autobiographical reflections of author R.B. Mitchell, who spent nearly his entire childhood in care within an orphanage. Writing in simple, strikingly transparent prose, Mitchell lays bare the wounds created by repeated abandonment and rejection by his family. His would be a truly heartrending story were it not for an adoption that came once his childhood years were passed.Mitchell was adopted into the family of God, accepting the Fathers promise to be home for him; to provide him with a never-faltering source of love, stability, and identity. Guided by His spirit through the process of deep forgiveness for those who forsook him, Mitchell was able to move forward into a new life including a wife and children as he learned to trust and love. Coming from an orphanage with dismal outcomes for its long term residents, Mitchells life stands out as wildly successful. A college graduate and participant in international missions, Mitchell is now a well established financial consultant and motivational speaker.

Definitely a good read. A unique true story because Mr. Mitchell was able to access his records from the orphanage.

My mind & heart were overwhelmed by this story. Only through Jesus Christ could a person who has experienced so much rejection, rise up and find a fulfilling life grounded in love. Rob is the perfect example of the weak becoming strong.

What an excellent testimony! Those who do outreach for children will have a better understanding of the emotional scars neglected and abused children suffer, and they will learn how to lead them into a trusting relationship with the Lord.

Once I started reading this book, I did not want to put it down. It is such a wonderful picture of God's love and grace. I immediately thought of people that would enjoy this book. I appreciate Mr. Mitchell's expert way of sharing his thoughts and feelings and giving us the opportunity to experience them with him during the story. I'm sure it was not easy for him to recall all of these events and relive them as he wrote. But because he did, many people will be blessed and changed.

I was gripped by this story about 3 sentences in. Bob Mitchell's story makes it difficult to turn away from so many kids who need a loving, godly home. I definately came away from this book, so thankful for God's redemptive, unconditional love!

This is one of the most inspiring stories that I have ever heard. Bob Mitchell conveys in such a meaningful way how any individual, if they so choose, can take the lemons of live and make lemonade. I couldn't put it down and had difficulty finishing the last chapter because of the tears in my eyes.
