This particular book is currently being used in my SS Class. It makes the Psalm so much more meaningful when you learn about the way a "good shepherd" would interact with and care for his flock. Having not grown up on a farm or even where sheep were raised, it was and is very enlightening!

"A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23" is a study of Psalm 23 from the perspective of a sheep rancher--one who grew up around tribal shepherds in east Africa.
The author discussed one verse per chapter and worked his way through the entire Psalm. He gave details about the aspect of shepherding that the verse referred to so that the reader could better understand the verse. He made parallels between how sheep (or the shepherd) acts and how we (or God) acts and how this is a lesson for us even in modern life.
I found the information that he gave about shepherding to be very useful in better understanding the various sheep and shepherd references in the Bible. I felt that a few of his parallels between shepherding and the Psalm were a bit of a stretch though they were still interesting in the overall sense of Biblical references. Overall, I'd recommend this book.

The book's print is a little small but for the price it is a great buy. We are using it as a bible study and supplement our own questions, scripture referneces and observations. This is a book that allows you to understand our relationship to God as His sheep. Also what an awesome Shepherd we have.

I loved this book! Beautiful insight and storytelling by the author. I'll never look at sheep the same way again. And the parallel between the care of the sheep by their sheperd and God caring for us is truly amazing. I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed and you will learn so much about not only David but our Savior and what He intended for our lives.

This item was not listed as NIV version on the listing and I was not interested in the NIV version but the original book version which is based on the KJV.
This information should have been included in the description of the item but was not.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. There are several things that we have all memorized since children but (most of us) have not taken the time to truly understand and interpret. The verse by verse study of this wonderful Psalm has given me a greater understanding of our Shepherd and how He cares for us and loves us. I purchased 20 of these and my Bible study group have read it during a 3 week hiatus between studies. I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't enjoy this.

I can hardly contain my enthusiasm and LOVE for this book! I have loved the 23rd Psalm for so long and i really thought i had dug deep into it for all the hidden messages of comfort and God's love but this book opened my eyes and blew me away. I read it as a devotional, one chapter per day and i can't describe the joy and peace i have experienced. the imagery and explanations have stayed with me. in fact, i bought five of them as Easter gifts! Also, there is another three books-in-one that contains this one plus two sequels. I am very pleased with that as well. You will not regret buying this book - I promise!

I just love this book. At a dark time of depression in my life, someone gave this book to me and I was so uplifted and felt so loved and cared for as I read it. It seriously deepened my walk with the Lord and caused me to draw intimately closer to Christ. I often send this book to hurting people.
