This book starts off with about the first 1/3 of the story giving the reader detailed background into the life & customs of the Yali tribes. Although interesting, if I had had another book available to read, I might have been tempted to lay this one down. But I didn't & I'm glad because all this prior information was necessary to the actual story.
The second 1/3 of the story was about Stan Dale & his life growing up & the kind of person he was. Again, this part of the book began to seem lengthy, but was necessary for the actual story.
The final 1/3 of the book brought it all together, & because of the background given in the first 2/3's of the book, the reader is able to understand the tribes as Stan did, & understand why he did the things he did. I could not put the book down at this point. Without the first 2/3's of the book, the final 1/3 would not have had the impact this true story deserves.
God bless all those missionaries, pilots, etc that selfishly step up to proclaim God's Word, even in the most remote regions of the world.
