Howard Books Emotions: Confront the Lies. Conquer with Truth.

God cares about how you feel--how you process the circumstances you face and how those experiences shape your understanding of the world around you. But even more important, the Father wants you to understand that He has given you the gift of emotions to help you connect meaningfully with others, find purpose and joy in life, and reflect His love to the world around you.

Sadly, what often happens is that instead of benefitting us, our emotions control us. Rather than understanding that our feelings are a tool to enrich our lives, we are dominated by the negative thoughts they generate within us. Dr. Stanley deals kindly and compassionately with the five key emotions that wound us: fear, rejection, bitterness, guilt, and despair. He even shares personal experiences about how these emotions can take hold of us and make us feel helplessly trapped in their unyielding grip.

In Emotions: Confront the Lies. Conquer with Truth, Dr. Charles Stanley explains how you can break free from the feelings that have taken you captive and regain the purpose for which God gave you emotions in the first place.

As usual, Pastor Stanley gets to the heart of the issues that all believers struggle with, and points us to Christ, as the author and finisher of our faith, and everything else we need! An awesome encouragement to "love and good works" for every believer.

Since emotions can be so troubling, Stanley begins by helping us understand why God gave us emotions in the first place. They are a gift from God so we can enjoy life, interact meaningfully with others (including our Father) by sharing our innermost being, and mirror His likeness.
But our fallen emotions are not as God has designed. We might wish we did not have to experience unpleasant emotions but Stanley reminds us that without them we would not know our need for a Savior.
He addresses five emotions that hinder our joy and walk with the Lord: fear, rejection, bitterness, guilt, and despair. He identifies the roots of these negative emotions and then walks us through the components of healing. We need to experience new birth, examine our thoughts, exchange our thought patterns, exercise the power of prayer, and expect God's healing to begin immediately.
Stanley explores each of the five emotions in depth. He gives examples of those experiencing the emotion, possible origins of it, the effect it has on our well being and our spiritual life, and then walks us through the healing process. He also provides Scriptural evidence showing the truth so it can be used to counter the lies.
The healing process is something that is going to take time and work. Stanley has provided the tools but we will need to do the deep searching, the work of controlling thoughts and countering them with the Scriptures given.
Stanley points out early in his book that we cannot do this on our own. It is only by the power of God that our emotions can be healed and that means we must be in relationship with Him. He explains salvation and invites us to accept Jesus as Savior if we have not already.
If you are struggling with fear, rejection, bitterness, guilt or despair, and are willing to work along with God for your healing, this is a good book for you to read.

You may have seen Charles Stanley on TV every now and then as you're flipping through channels on Sunday morning. He is the senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and he is a New York Times bestselling author who has written more than fifty books. His latest book, Emotions "Confront the lies and Conquer the Truth" is a look at the negative feeling we all experience.
Granted the title is called "Emotions" but this isn't really a book about the positive emotions. This isn't a book about love, or joy - rather this is a practical book that takes a look at the emotions that get the better of us - and how we can rise above them
Stanley covers emotions like wounding, pain, misery, bitterness, guilt, and despair. Through each chapter Stanley offers biblical steps on how to get a hold on those run away feelings with clear explanations throughout.
This book talks much like Charles Stanley preaches. You can really hear his voice coming through to you if you have ever had the pleasure of listening to him talk. This book is such a great tool to help people navigate negative emotions. Stanley even covers where some of these bad emotions come from and how we can begin to unravel how they begin in our lives.
I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is trying to rise above the weight of dark moments in their lives.
Thank you to Howard books for a review copy for a fair and honest review

I try to read everything Charles Stanley writes, for me he is a spiritual leader who has a wonderful way of teaching me what I need to know when I need to know it! In his latest book "Emotions" Confront the Lies and Conquer With Truth he gets to the emotional heart of the pain that holds so many of us captive. With insight and wisdom along with the use of scriptures he guides the reader on a journey that can lead them out of the darkness of negative emotions and into the light of God's wonderful love!
This book consists of ten chapters and there were a few chapters that really jumped out at me. One of the chapters revolved around rejection, one of the most painful emotions that there is, because it distorts how we view ourselves. We may not even realize that we are influenced by this emotion. Not only does Dr. Stanley reveal how we can overcome the bondage to this emotion, but he reminds us of our worth to our Heavenly father. Another chapter that spoke to me was "All The Way To Victory" which reminds that adversity can be God's greatest tool for spiritual growth. This book is written in a very easy to use format, and the personal stories make it a very easy book to relate to, and also shows that Mr. Stanley knows what he is talking about because of personal insights he shares. There are questions at the end of each chapter that allow for further reflection. Perfect for group or individual study, I think that "Emotions" by Charles Stanley is full of useful tools for anyone looking to begin to heal the hurts and break the negative emotions that hold them back.
