Customer Reviews for HarperOne Shame and Grace

HarperOne Shame and Grace

One kind of shame is good---it's the natural response of an unholy creature before a holy creator. But that stomach-churning shame that grips you in the dark of the night---that's not something a child of God needs to endure. In a personal, story-filled, and sensitive way, Smedes examines true and false shame and affirms God's healing grace and power. 176 pages, softcover from HarperCollins.

This book is ok for personal use. But I don't think it is the best for bible study groups.

Pastor Dave
Was a reading for a D. Min. class at Bethel and it is one of my top books. This is a must read for every pastor. The book also gives an explanation for what drives many of the "successful" pastors and laypeople, the need to be significant and erase their shame.

This book changed my life! Smedes' books (this one and many of his others) revealed to me the depth of God's unconditional love when I felt so completely unlovable. Shame is like rust...it eats away at you...and the only cure is God's love. I have given away more copies of this book than I can count. It is especially good for people going through divorce.
