I have this book at home and it was a favorite. I considered purchasing one for every child on the team I coach. After specifically rereading to evaluate it for a gift, I don't feel I can gift it. On the last page in the letter to parents, it directs parents to reenact the week that led to Easter including having kids dress up and have the children yell "Crucify Him!"...come on Arch books...how about have the children yell "Hosanna to the King!". And I think it's time to make the hard break with the word Easter (which some have researched to link to Ishtar) and say Jesus' Resurrection instead. On page 3 it reads "He knew His life was doomed." While I believe there is room to reason throughout the Old Testament and in the book of Revelation that Jesus knew at his own start well before coming in human flesh, that his crucifixion was the plan, I just don't like that wording. Based upon Jesus' teaching to me...while I'm working with a 6 year old in tears that he keeps doing wrong and wants to be as good as Jesus, but it's too hard. Based on how Jesus came to my heart in that moment of my own frustration with that situation and other situations where I was idolizing my sport and my own effort..Jesus reassured me that he knew he had to take care of us for eternity in His perfection, in laying down himself on his own choice, in His resurrection, and his rule on the throne in heaven, because of our life challenges and weaknesses like these. I personally do not think we are taught to focus on any doom even when we understand challenge and persecution to any degree. I would have to imagine Jesus focused so much on the glory and love of God the Father to Him and how much Jesus himself does love us in order for him to align his understanding of God's ways and God's will. 98% of this book is awesome and two issues just sit so uncomfortably with me while I homeschool and coach so I will be eliminating this from our family library. I used a lot of Arch books to teach advanced beginner reading skills, but I'm not sure about them now. I'm not a fan of reenacting the stations of the cross. To understand the crucifixion is one thing to reenact it and with such a specific shout is another. Besides...He said "It is finished."

This was a very nicely illustrated (as in not cartoonish) summary of the events of Easter week. It is for younger children and early readers. I read it aloud at our church's Easter party, then gave copies to the children.
