Crossway Books & Bibles Scandalous: The Cross and Resurrection of Jesus - eBook

D.A. Carson introduces the irony, scandal, and greatness of the work done on the cross. How are Christians to approach the central gospel teachings concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus? The Bible firmly establishes the historicity of these events and doesn't leave their meanings ambiguous or open to interpretation. Even so, there is an irony and surprising strangeness to the cross. Carson shows that this strange irony has deep implications for our lives as he examines the history and theology of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.

Scandalous is the latest addition to the Re:Lit series, which highlights important theological truths in accessible and applicable ways. Both amateur theologians and general readers will appreciate how Carson deftly preserves weighty theology while simultaneously noting the broader themes of Jesus' death and resurrection. Through exposition of five primary passages of Scripture, Carson helps us to more fully understand and appreciate the scandal of the cross. This book, by the world's leading NT scholar, will be an amazing resource for challenging and education in colleges, and in churches.

Other than the Bible, there has only been one other book I have bought and gave out in mass quantities. This joins the ranks. I read several books every week. Of this one I say: Get it. Read it. You will not be disappointed. The Gospel is not only explained, but unpacked in a way that you have probably never seen or experienced before. This book exults Christ and will grow you in your daily walk with Him.

Awesome book. The chapter on Revelation is worth the price of the book alone. This is my first Carson book and I was very impressed with his teaching and wisdom.

In his book "Scandalous: The Cross and Resurrection of Jesus" D. A. Carson takes a fresh look at the story of the cross and resurrection of Jesus in 5 specific passages. This is an excellent book. I found the first chapter on Matthew 27:27 - 51a very insightful. Carson looks at four ironies in this passage of Scripture: Jesus as King, Jesus as powerful, Jesus as Savior and Jesus' trust in God. While this passage of Scripture has been looked at over and over again, especially at Easter time, Carson looks at this passage with fresh eyes and offers helpful insights into understanding it. Carson offers the same helpful insights into Romans 3:21 - 26, Revelation 12, John 11:1 - 53 and John 20:24 - 31. This book is an quick an excellent read. I highly recommend this book. It offers several new insights into often read passages.
