This book is amazing,loved every aspect of it that was covered. An eye opener and spirit lifter. This was the first ebook i finished on my ereader.Thanks lisa!!, for generously giving me these words of wisdom . I was broken, i cried, i repented and i was revived all at the same time. I am Blessed because God minister to me through this piece......:)

After reading You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes, I am nominating Lisa McKay to be the official BFF for every pastor's wife!Lisa's book is beyond encouraging - it's real, fresh, practical, and like having a heart-to-heart chat with someone who really understands what life is like as a pastor's wife. It's not just another guide to being a pastor's wife, it's a friend for a pastor's wife.While I can not say that I agree 100% with every last word Lisa says in this book, I can say that this book is finding a permanent home on my bookshelf! Lisa addresses topics such as being appropriate, how to leave a church, what expectations you should have for your PK's, how to NOT be your husband's worst enemy, and a whole lot more. I appreciate the vulnerability with which she wrote and the Biblical basis for what she wrote.For a a new Pastor's Wife, this book will provide an honest approach to living out her new role. The older Pastor's Wife may be challenged to think through her previously formed convictions and for the hurting Pastor's Wife this book will be a balm of compassion and encouragement. I truly appreciate McKay's book for tossing aside the typical "should's" about ministry life and instead revealing the grace and freedom which we all should find in the Lord.From the emotional topics acknowledging the very real truth that "Church Can Hurt" (yes, every minister's wife will learn this at some point!) to how to handle friendships within the church, McKay offers her personal experience and wisdom. Yet she also shares her thoughts on topics such as whether or not to serve in a church ministry needing volunteers (oh, that can be so tempting to say "yes" to, can't it?), raising your children to keep the faith (a very important topic), saying goodbye and saying hello to a church, and ways to show love to a congregation along with ways for a congregation to do the same. Each chapter includes not only quotes from minister's wives and laypersons McKay surveyed but also discussion questions, which make this book useful to laypersons as well as ministry wives.After the final page was turned, I found myself reflecting on my own experiences in the ministry. I have certainly made my own mistakes and mis-steps as well as having in turn been misunderstood and mistreated. Yet I can find freedom in my husband's ministry through simply being myself while walking closely with the Lord and offering my own spiritual gifts alongside his ministry. This, while supporting my husband, loving my family and loving the church is really all the Lord requires of me. McKay expresses all this with humor, humility, compassion and grace. May each woman who reads this book be blessed to know God has chosen and equipped her to serve Him--trendy, cute shoes or not. This book was provided for review through B & B Media.

Although this book is written primarily for pastor wives I gleaned a lot from it and recommend it to everyone involved in the church. Lisa, who is also the author of a blog and messageboard for pastors' wives gives advice that is ground in reality and in scripture. She tells it like it is through humour, personal experience, and information from the members of her site. She acknowledges something that most church members don't, pastors'wives are all at different points in their lives and need to have different priorities. Sometimes they are young and need to look after their family, sometimes they are working out of the home, and sometimes they have the experience and time to help with different church ministries but, they can't do it all. This book is written in a manner that everyone can understand, there is lots of humour, advice that makes sense, and a look inside the workings of a pastor's family life. Definitely a good read.

With openness that I did not fully expect Lisa McKay puts into words the very things that most pastors wives never speak out loud! This was a great an easy read. Her down-to-earth style was refreshing and enjoyable. Lisa explores the unspoken fears and concerns facing most wives of men in ministry. With encouragement to be who we are created to be individuals. Too often a Pastors wife feels pressure to fit a certain mold you must be able to sing in the choir, play the piano, visit the shut-ins, be a good cook, and have children that are so perfect they seem fake. I havent met too many Pastors wives that havent felt this way. I applaud Lisas ability to encourage wives of ministers to be who God created them to be to hold God as our highest standard and allow him to guide us in our unique talents to best serve in the ministry. If you want to gift your Pastors wife and encourage her by acknowledging her as an individual this is a great book to give.Thank you B&B Media Group, Inc. and Cook Communications for providing this book for review.

Lisa McKay is not a woman who grew up dreaming of serving alongside her preacher man. Quite the contrary! She and her husband, Luke, were just a day or two short of finalizing their divorce when God not only rescued their marriage but saved their souls. Now fifteen years later, she shares what she's learned along their journey through days at Bible college, seminary, and serving several churches, all while nurturing their marriage and raising a family. If you are a woman who is "Married to the Ministry", as Lisa calls it, you will be refreshed and renewed as Lisa discusses a number of issues common to staff wives. Lisa addresses these in her down-to-earth, witty style, and her testimony will assure you that her cute shoes have a few miles on them as she's walked alongside Luke in ministry. This is not just an idealistic book for your bookshelf; Lisa provides practical and specific counsel for real-life situations. And while she shares plenty of wisdom from her own experiences, the feet inside her adorable footwear are firmly grounded in Scripture for guidance and perspective. Included at the end of each chapter are comments from preachers' wives and laypersons (gleaned from discussions on Lisa's blog) who provide support and insight which are applicable whether you are a brand-new or experienced PW.
