Written very well as a defense against Lordship salvation. I agree with 99% of writing and recommend this book to every believer to help distinguish between salvation and discipleship.

So Great Salvation received the Gold Medallion Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Whether you are from the Lordship Salvation Viewpoint or not, Dr. Charles Ryrie should be given his due. I love the way that he calmly expounds the Word of God, and brings such clarity to this topic of Salvation. The forward written by Warren Wiersbe sheds considerable light upon this book; Dr. Ryrie writes with humility and compassion. He has not overreacted to what some extremists have written. Rather, he calmly and logically expounds the Word of God and seeks to bring clarity where there may be confusion, and gentleness where there may be harsh dogmatism. He seeks to obey the words of 2 Timothy 2:2425: And the Lords bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition. I highly recommend this significant work for your reading and your library! 5 Stars!

Great book!! Charles Ryrie argues for Biblical Truth especially his chapter "Repent! About What?"Sadly Mr. Rambo did not explain how Charles' book is borderline easy believism. C. Ryrie texplains that it is not easy to believe in his chapter "It's not Easy To Believe." I wish he would read the whole book...

Blah! Borderline easy believism. Although I think Macarthur goes too far with his "confession of all known sin" ideas, faith cannot be divorced from action; it WILL result in an immediate attitude change.[url]http://www.straightwalk.com[/url]

This is an excellent response to Dr. MacArthur's book on the gospel. Dr. Ryrie's tone is polite and humble. And he very clearly and concisely shares what the Gospel truly is. His accurate distinction between salvation and discipleship is amazing. Those who say Dr. Ryrie promotes a 'easy-believism' Gospel have totally missed the simplicity of the grace of God. Dr. Ryrie has lucidly defended the Gospel of the Lord Jesus.

Ryrie's So Great Salvation is an excellent book. While I do not agree with it 100%, it is, at least more biblical than John MacArthur's biblical works-based "Lordship Salvation" (AKA Evangelical Roman Catholicism). Ryrie presents the REAL gospel as found in 1Cor 15:1-5 and does not warp the meaning of Romans 10:9 like most Lordship Salvationists do.From the NET Bible in regards to Rom 10:9, The Greek construction, along with the quotation from Joe_2:32 in Rom_10:13 (in which the same "Lord" seems to be in view) suggests that κύριον (kurion) is to be taken as "the Lord," that is, Yahweh. Cf. D. B. Wallace, "The Semantics and Exegetical Significance of the Object-Complement Construction in the New Testament," GTJ 6 (1985): 91-112.Anyway, Ryrie's book is splendid and does not, as Bridget and Charlie Hoffer state, encourage Christians to sin. These are falsehoods perpetuated by the growing Roman Catholic evangelicalism movement.I encourage you to read this book two or three times.

Charles Ryrie represents the worst in ultra-dispensational Calvinist theologians. He writes a book to reveal God's great salvation and yet he actually encourages the believer to live in sin! He proposes dividing Christ's work of salvation between "receiving" Him as Savior but not Lord.What a farce! The Bible clearly teaches that we must die to self, take up the cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23-25). Ryrie wants to enjoy sin but Jesus demands repentance (Matthew 3:8; Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; Romans 2:4). Jesus demands total obedience (Matthew 7:21-23; John 8:31-32) and anything less is simply not the gospel (Romans 1:5; Galatians 1:6-9). Truly Jesus is coming only for those who obey Him (2 Thess. 1:8-10; Hebrews 5:8-9; 9:27-28; 1 John 2:3-6).What an awful book!

This book, like the gospel, is beautiful and powerful in its simplicity. It would be a great gift to a new believer, or an effective witnessing tool for someone who is not saved but still in the "valley of decision."Buy this book. Read this book. Give this book away. You'll be glad that you did!"So Great Salvation"...is "so great" because it describes why our salvation is "so great", and why our SAVIOR is even GREATER still! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!

Charles Ryrie outlines a pure dispensational view of salvation from his Dallas Theological Seminary roots. Ryrie seeks to support, from the Bible, the idea that salvation is by faith alone yet many have sought to add to this salvation by adding repentance as a requirement to salvation. Ryrie argues that it is simply by faith and faith alone that one is saved and from that point on the person is saved even if they do not continue to mature in Christ (which he views as sanctification, which is optional to eternal life which is received by faith alone).The problems with Ryrie's theology are too much to list in a short review. But it is suffice to say that Ryrie's view is more based on his own pragmatic understanding of what it means to be Jesus' disciple than upon a clear exegesis of Scripture. While I applaud Dr. Ryrie's desire to defend against works as a bases for salvation, I do not agree nor support the unbiblical notion that one can make Jesus their Savior without Him being their Lord (Romans 10:9). The soft, easy gospel of today's modern church will eat up this book but those who love God and His Word will read it but will not agree at all with the contents in this book.

Ryrie presents a fantastic overview of what it means to believe inJesus Christ from a clear, comprehensive biblical perspective. Histeaching is at once concise, practical and, most importantly, accurate.The relatively short, easy to read chapters make this book an idealsupplement to a Sunday school curriculum or Bible study, andwould provide stimulating discussion of key issues pertaining to theChristian faith. Ryrie's clear, sound presentation of biblical doctrine isrefreshing.
