I will be the first to admit that I overlooked that the Saxon 5/4 said "softcover" after the textbook, since the previous Saxon textbooks have been hardcover that is not something I even keyed in on...it just seems that for the price paid that quality of the materials is very lacking and this is more against Saxon than against CBD. Be forewarned my fellow Saxon lovers, there is a dive in the quality of materials between Saxon 3 and Saxon 5/4. I am sure the overall quality of education is still top notch, I just like my materials to be a bit more durable. I would have even paid a bit extra for a hard copy version, which is what I came on here tonight to do if there was one available. :(

We just started homeschooling our kids and my son who was in grade 6 in public school has been working on the Math 5/4 to get back on track and he is loving it. He told me the other day that he loves doing math now because the Math 5/4 explains things in a way that he can understand. I am so glad that we went with the Saxon math.

The lessons are easy to understand, it explains everything in detail. They break the lesson up in 3 sections: first the memory work, 3-4 questons that is to be done in your head. Second there's the mixed practice, you have several questions of previous lessons (review). Third the work for the new lesson. There are speed drills for every lesson. This curriculum is easy and I wish I had used sooner. I'm using Saxxon for all my kids now.

We like using Saxon Math 5/4. The lessons are broken down very simply which is helpful to people (like me) who may not be mathematically inclined. There is also review in every lesson which reinforces past lessons learned. The lessons are concise and to the point so we can complete them and move on to more enjoyable subjects. I would recommend this kit to anyone.
