Image Entertainment The Holy Roller, DVD

Pastor Luke has always known that he possessed the God-given power to inspire people, but he's never had more than a few, paltry parishioners in his small town on which to bestow his glorious gift. When he moves to the city, and achieves great success as a televangelist, he thinks he's finally fulfilling God's plan. It's only when he almost loses his new ministry, and the woman he loves, that he finds the courage to become the man God truly called him to be. Starring Angus Benfield, Victoria Abbott and Jeremy Brennan, The Holy Roller shows us that the only thing more important than having the faith to begin... is the courage to begin again. Widescreen. Approx. 88 minutes.

This film left me wanting so much more. Good acting and cinematography, but lacking values in the story. While it almost strayed into presenting true Christian values, it was off the mark when the time came to express them. The characters in the film who possessed an understanding of what God expects of His called were portrayed as bumbling and too meek. The characters that were in it for profit or personal gain were the ones portrayed as competent. The story line in this movie is all about religion, but it is more aimed at showing the bad side of tele-evangelist and churches that are money-based. Far too much worldliness in this story.
While the discussion guide in the "Extra features" section did go strongly into biblical themes and passages, those themes had been poorly depicted in the film.
