Inter-varsity Press The Expansion of Christianity

Yates offers an engaging description of how Christianity has expanded from its humble origins to become a leading world religion. In doing so, Yates narrows his focus to some of the missionary pioneers of Christianity such as the Apostle Paul, Willibrod, David Brainerd, William Carey, David Livingstone, and Mary Slessor. The discussion progresses both chronologically and geographically, marking Christianity's development through time and from continent to continent. Like the other volumes in the IVP Histories series, The Expansion of Christianity combines its easily accessible text with beautiful art, illustrations, and photographs, making it a wonderful introduction to the worldwide growth of Christianity.

This is an excellent and fascinating book. You get a good, quick overview of the historical spread of Christianity as the church grew after the book of Acts. The illustrations are helpful and interesting, aiding in grasping the geography, history, and culture into which the Gospel came. Yes, you'll find more details in longer books of church history books, but you'll miss the big picture, which is well presented here. An excellent buy!
