Tyndale House When God Doesn't Make Sense, softcover

An immensely practical book for those who are struggling with trials and heartaches they can't understand. Why does disease, natural disaster, divorce, rejection, death, or some other sorrow seep into our lives when we are trying to serve the Lord? It just doesn't seem fair!

This book deals unflinchingly with life's most troubling question-the awesome "Why?" Drawing on his long experience as a Christian psychologist and family counselor, Dr. Dobson brings hope to those who have almost given up. When God Doesn't Make Sense also helps believers avoid the "betrayal barrier"---the sense that God is abandoning them amid the storms of life. A 1994 Gold Medallion Award winner!

Many have experienced pain and suffering, or a tragic event in their lives. For many their are questions still left unanswered, I believe Dr. James Dobson affords some of the best answers I have ever seen in print and based on the Word of God. This book can be an aid to bring anyone through any crisis or tragic event that you may have faced to will face in life. One of the best self help books available on the market today, at least in my opinion.

This book grapples many of the 'unanswerable' questions that all people, including Christians face squarely and fairly.
Job well done, Dr. Dobson.

Dobson does a great job of helping us understand that we can't always understand God but we can still learn to trust Him in all things.

I have read this book twice, and feel that it is a great book for anyone who asks, "Why?" in the midst of suffering.

Our family is going through a situation where a young nephew of 42 may not be with us long. He has advanced stages of sarcoma cancer. His parents are having difficulty dealing with this and are blaming God because their son is not a "bad" person. Hopefully this will give them faith, hope, and the knowledge of love that God has for everyone.

I read this book last year, in 2008, after I had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. My husband and I were told that the type of aneurysm I had was the most likely to rupture and that a rupture would be catastrophic because it was so close to my brain stem. We were also told that it couldn't be repaired, because attempting to do so would cause a stoke. Needless to say, I started seeking God and His wisdom. In addition to my Bible, this is one of the books I read. The examples of faith during adversity that Dr. Dobson offers in this book helped bring peace through surrender during this difficult time in my life. When I was being put to sleep for my surgery to clip off the artery that was feeding the aneurysm, I remember picturing myself letting go of the tree branch and falling into the arms of Jesus, as one of the metaphorical situations in "When God Doesn't Make Sense" described. God gave me a miraculous recovery and my prognosis is for a "normal life expectancy." Praise the name of Jesus for His amazing grace!

This book was given to us 12 years ago when our 21 year old daughter died from a car wreck and left a four month old son and husband. We also lost our 21 year old niece in an auto accident a few short years later, she was like one of our own kids. So we read it again, it has given us great comfort and we have bought many through the years and given to others who have lost older children way before there time......
