A fresh view of the Old Testament from a leading theologian! Postmodern in its ethos yet evangelical in its perspective, Goldingay's first volume in his 3-volume magnum opus meticulously examines the First Testament's narrative, plot, motifs, tensions, and subtleties to tell the story of God's divine interaction with Israel---from creation to the exile and restoration. 900 pages, hardcover from InterVarsity.

If you prefer your OT less mechanistic and more organic and messy this will give you the place to start - If the Holy Spirit is behind His Story and this is His book not ours then you'll appreciate Goldingay's approach. This isn't systematic theology rather this is honest, wrestling theology without all the answers but included in the big story, history. If you like a God you cannot put in a box, this book will help paint the picture of the God who became incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth - prepare to think and look out for volumes 2 & 3.
