Provides some information about contemporary historical figures, but presentation jumps around. Seems like a disjointed collection of separate chapters.

This was a very good book. Like the other reviewers, I enjoyed the historical context brought out in "A. D. 33." There is a lot of documentation via the endnotes to support the writer's chronology and interpretation of the events.
I was bothered a little bit by a few of the printing mistakes here and there. Occasionally, I came across a sentence such as the one with an extra "to" in it. More than that, some of the endnotes were misnumbered, particularly in chapter 5 entitled "Darkness at Noon." Endnote number "16" is erroneously numbered "26" in the chapter itself. In addition, the endnotes throughout that chapter are off by one. You would think that this was rushed to press without proper proofreading.
Still, I greatly enjoyed reading this book and it has prompted me to do some more research regarding this time period. It is well-written, well-documented, and interesting and easy to read.

As a teacher I am always interested in the background information concerning the first century and this book was very well done in an easy to understand style. I felt i learned much about Rome and its politics.

The New Testament events occurred with real people in real political and cultural times. If you want to gain a much deeper understanding of those events, this book will really help. And thus it will increase your understanding of how to apply the teaching of Jesus in 30 AD to 2010.
I love the Bible and I love history, so this was a great read for me.
