Inter-Varsity Press The Original Dr. Steve's Almanac of Christian Trivia: A Miscellany of Oddities, Instructional Anecdotes, Little-Known Facts and Occasional Frivolity

Steve Wilkens offers answers and reflections on scores of questions in this thoroughly instructional and often amusing almanac of things you should have learned in Sunday School, but somehow didn't. Learn the answers to "Why isn't Easter o n the same day every year"?, "How is it that nearly every hotel room has a Gideon's Bible?," and other little known fa cts. Also offered are quizzes on famous biblical phrases and definitions of theological terms. This volume is thoroughly instructional, and totally fun. A great gift!

The book is written in simple language with a light-hearted tone. The trivia is not one-liners. Every thought is develped, ranging from half a page to several pages. It is geared to adults. The trivia is about people and events in the 2000 years of Christian history; it is not Bible trivia. There are many interesting items that I had no clue about before reading it. However, the reader must remember that this is a trivia book, not a reference book; it does not include footnotes and references. I do not think that is bad. If you question or want more information about Dr. Steve's "facts", there is always the Internet to do your own research to confirm them or expand on them. This is not a textbook and does not read like one (thank goodness!). Consider the book a tool to stir up your interest in a fun way. Also, the book is a small format, more like an almanac.

I bought this book because it was on sale, but it's so good I'd paid full price. Interesting trivia with just the right amount of humor to the stories.
