Random House Books for Young Readers Step Into Reading and Writing, Level 2: Thomas & Friends; Henry's Bad Day

Henry is very proud of his shiny green coat. He doesn't like to get dirty or wet, because it makes his coat dull and spotty. One day, when it starts to rain, he refuses to come out of a tunnel, leaving his passengers stranded. Sir Topham Hatt decides that Henry has a lot to learn about being a Really Useful Engine. Recommended for ages 4 to 7, grades preschool to grade 1.

Step 2: Reading and Writing with Help books are designed for children who use letters, words, and pictures to tell stories. They feature basic vocabulary, short sentences, and simple writing activities.

I really like that this has writing in it. Sometimes when a your child is learning how to read it is very easy to start reading to them instead of them reading to you. I think the writing portion in this gets them more involved.
