Kent's book grabs you at page 1 and doesn't let up til the end. His honest and transparent struggle with faith and God's nature, justice and mercy are woven through the pages of his experience in Haiti, post earthquake. He and his wife lived and worked with the nationals in Haiti, before it was "cool" to go to Haiti. Because of this, the destruction, loss of friends, and mass devastation as a result of the earthquake had a profoundly personal impact on him. But his struggles with faith are somewhat universal, and so the book resonated deeply with my own heart.

"There are also shocks to the system when God seems either absent or negligent. Do we ignore these shocks and their aftershocks?"

For Kent, the shocks and aftershocks refer to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti last year. They also refer to the shocks and aftershocks to his faith. Call it, as he does, a "crisis of faith."

Dear God, Today I come to You, bringing prayers for my neighbors from Haiti before Your throne. I don't know what each and every one is going through right now, but I know that each has their own hurts, challenges, problems, needs. I know that some are grieving, whether over an errant child, a lost job, the death of a loved one or something else; some are lonely; some are lost and need the Savior; some are ill and need healing and comfort; the needs go on.

' Aftershock' is an excellent book. I would recommend it to everyone and I pray that the Holy Spirit will minister to each one and meet their spiritual needs. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I have really enjoyed reading through this book. 'After Shock' is written by Kent Annan and it has helped me to understand the plight of the people in the island, allowing me to journey through some of the real "faith" stories of our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Present your body to God for His service. Let it be your foremost goal to make a difference for Christ, and you'll have a life well lived. We need to be fully engaged in living our lives for Christ Jesus. In fact, we ought to live in such a way that when we die, the evil one says, "Whew, glad that one's gone!"
