Inter-Varsity Press The Circle of Seasons: Meeting God in the Church Year

Growing up in a Protestant church Kimberlee Conway Ireton had learned that the two biggest holidays were Christmas and Easter. However, in high school when her Catholic friends asked what she was giving up for Lent, she was drawn into an exploration of the traditional church calendar that shaped her faith from then on. In The Circle of Seasons she introduces the Church Year to the curious Christian. From Advent through Pentecost and Ordinary Time, Ireton explores these seasons and celebrations through her own life and church history. Discover a deeper way to connect your spiritual growth with everyday living.

The Circle of Seasons offers a wonderful, grace-full meditation on the seasons of the church year. But even more, it goes beyond information to how to live the sacred rhythms of Advent to Easter to Ordinary time and everything in between, told through Kimberlee Conway Ireton's gifted storytelling. Perfect for family study, small groups, adult Sunday education classes, and seminary students learning about the church year as it is lived out in personal lives and the life of a congregation.

Well-written in an easy-to-read style. By weaving her personal experiences into the narrative, Kim turns what might have been a rather dry topic into a very interesting and informative read. I learned a lot about the Church Year that I had never even thought about before. I know that my own personal experiences of the various seasons of the church will be enhanced by what I've read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it. In fact, I just sent a copy to a friend for her birthday!

Having no background in liturgical church observances, this volume proved to be an excellent primer in history and explanation of the Church calendar seasons for me. The practical applications offered by the author were helpful. It was an enjoyable read and provided me with appreciation of church traditions which were new to me.

This book makes the year look so simple! I love the "long and slow" approach to the seasons. Forget the hectic, materialistic craziness and let's focus on Christ and family. I'm already planning my Christmas list of who will be getting this book! Kimberlee Conway Ireton's transparent and honest writing style was so easy to read and relate to. I tried to read it slowly to take it all in but found that I couldn't put it down!
