Renovation of the Heart by Dallas Willard is an awesome book. I've read it several times, but it is just so hard to apply because it is just so much. Sort of like trying to drink the tide. In this book Ms. Johnson takes a point from the book per chapter (basically condenses/quotes it) adds a bit of her own insight and then gives a little exercise for application. 60+ 2-4 page chapters that are substantial and holdable. I've read the first 2/3 over and over during the last few months because it is so wise, helpful and applicable (amazingly I have yet to finish it). I've bought probably 20 to give away. It is helping me. I've been a Christian for over 40 years and have a seminary degree but "spiritual formation" is something that was never really emphasized in my circles. This is a book worth getting. If you like it, then read the original Dallas Willard Renovation of the Heart. Seriously--this is a great book whether you have been a Christian for days or decades.

Please refer to the detailed reviews of "Renovation of the Heart: Putting On the Character of Christ". This shorter edition " Renovation of the Heart in Daily Practice" has the essentially the same content, but is written succinctly so that a chapter can be read in a few minutes. In addition, suggested exercises for personal application are included. It is excellent, well worth reading and rereading.
