IVP Academic Psalms 1-72: Tyndale Old Testament Commentary [TOTC]

Derek Kidner provides a fresh and penetrating guide to Psalms 1-72. He analyzes each psalm in depth, comments on interpretive questions and lays bare the universal relevance of the texts. In addition he gives special help on the psalmists' cries for vengeance. Together with its companion volume (Psalms 73-150) this introduction and commentary will inspire and deepen personal worship.

The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retypeset and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series.

Kidner is a top-notch scholar and gifted writer. He writes from a conservative perspective. If anyone is seeking a brief, reliable, and accessible guide to the message of Psalms 1-72, this is it. This commentary is relatively brief. It does not attempt a detailed study of the Hebrew language, nor extensive interaction with alternative viewpoints, but what it does, it does very well.

Derek Kidner's two volume set is an absolute gold mine but the quality of the product itself is miserable. Very poor binding. The binding is already broke and I haven't even turned but maybe ten pages. I have an older hardbound set that I've relied on for a number of years and wanted to get another to replace it. I'm very disappointed in this. Kinder's two volume set on The Psalms ranks right up there near the top but this is overshadowed by the publishers utterly poor manufacturing. He deserves far, far better.
Regardless of this the product is well worth the money. Kidner sheds light into so much within the Psalms and the deeper truths that are hidden within. A superb scholar.
