The pre-exilic prophets suffered to burdens. First they had to warn their own people about their impending doom, and second, they watched the horizon as watchmen waiting for the coming of the Assyrian, and eventually, the Babylonian military juggernauts. In this Tyndale Old Testament Commentary outstanding Old Testament scholar Joyce Baldwin examines the lives and ministries of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi as they speak the words of God to his covenant people and warn of impending doom. Yet, their messages are not without hope, as in the midst of judgment God promises to return his people and bring forth the promised messiah.Baldwin's writing is eloquent, yet lucid, and in being so she brings the meaning and context of these enigmatic books to life with sound scholarship which every student of the Bible can access, no matter what level they are at.

Review 1 for Haggai, Zechariah & Malachi: Tyndale Old Testament Commentary [TOTC]
Baldwin is an Evangelical writer whose work is always helpful. This book is no exception. It is very brief, but serves as a great aid to personal study and/or lesson preparation. It is one of the better books available on these three minor prophets. For in-depth discussion of scholarly issues, one will need to look elsewhere. But for a solid exposition, built upon good scholarship this is excelllent.
