Whitaker House Publishers Holy War

Once upon a time in the town of Mansoul, a fierce battle raged to take control away from the rightful Prince. Who will be the conquering Prince. Diabolus or Emmanuel? And what can the inhabitants do to resist the attacks of the evil one? Your soul is under attack from the forces of evil. Through this powerful allegory, you will learn how to: build up your defenses, flood your moat, and prepare for war! Bunyan will illuminate your understanding and show you: when your will is in line with Christ, you can accomplish anything. Spiritual attack is constant and can be deadly. The enemy will stop at nothing to possess your soul. Christ the conqueror is on your side, and with His help, you have nothing to fear!

The publishers should include on the title page that this is not the actual text that John Bunyan wrote, but an abridged/edited edition. I assign this work for a class and every year students inadvertently buy this book in advance before I can warn them that they need to purchase the book that Bunyan actually wrote. It's a bit of a bait and switch to be publishing it with incomplete/inaccurate information on the cover.Having said that, this edition excels in readability and is worth owning for a junior high or high school student who wants to read the story but would get bogged down in some of the long dialogues and speeches in the original.

While reflecting the flavor of the original work I had not realized this edition had been "updated for the modern reader. Words, expressions, and sentence structure have been revised for clarity and readability. Chapter breaks and titles have been inserted in the text." The print type is fairly large. Readability well describes this edition.

I've never read a book that describes our nature as humans so well. This book is about the city of Mansoul, its fall, and the redemption of Mansoul. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to see themselves as they are in their human nature.
