This beautifully illustrated 60th anniversary edition of The Hobbit is a great modern classic and prelude to The Lord of the Rings. Whisked away from his comfortable unambitious life in his hobbit hole in Bag End by Gandalf the wizard and a company of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoarde of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Although quite reluctant to take part in this quest, Bilbo surprises even himself by his resourcefulness and his skill as a burglar.

This is a beautiful edition for any Hobbit fan. I purchased it for my teenaged daughter and she made the comment "It's so nice I'll keep it for my kids"

This is a beautiful copy of The Hobbit that we have loved as a family for many years. We recently bought a copy for each of our children, so that they could take it with them as they are growing up and leaving home.

If you have never read the Lord of the Rings, this is a great intoducion to the never ending depths of Middle Earth. Learn the history of Frodo's adventures; how it all got started sixty years ago. If you have read LOTR but not this, you should be ashamed! Sixty years is about time! True, the book is written for a younger audeince, but adult and child alike will find it a charming, intriguing tale of bravery, loyalty, and high adventure. What better way to introduce someone to the wonders of Tolkien's world than this wonderfully illustrated book. There's a reason that six decades is not enough to keep millions of readers from enjoying The Hobbit. When other authors come and go with time, certain ones become mile stones in the history of literature. Tolkien redefines Fantasy.
