Dreaming of Home by Glynna Kaye Book 1 Canyon Springs, Arizona Series In the fictional town of Canyon Springs, Arizona up in the White Mountains is where we meet our hero's and heroines in this series. Beginning with hometown hunk and hero Joe Diaz and the newcomer Meg McGuire who has quickly snuck into the hearts of the townspeople.
Meg is hoping to get a job as a Science teacher. Her Aunt June grew up in Canyon Springs and told her the stories of the small town and of going to a small school versus the Phoenix area Meg grew up in. And when her Aunt's old house came on the market she was sure that her dreams would come true and God had definitely led her to this place. That was before the handsome Joe Diaz and his young son Davy came into town...with Joe wanting the same job and the same house for his own. Meg knew how short life could be and how quickly it could change, could she give up her dreams to see this father and son live theirs?
Joe left the Navy to take his son Davy back to his hometown and to get to know his grandpa, Bill. After his wife, Selena, died it was easier for Joe to leave Davy with her parents and go back to the sea where things were familiar but something came up that called him to step up and be a father to his son. He came home expecting everything to be handed to him as the hometown hero but a petite firecracker stood in his way. Can these two find a way to work things out or will the fear from their pasts destroy their future?
This is another impressive offering from Steeple Hills Love Inspired line. I can see why it is a multi-award winner. Kudos to Glynna Kaye, the recognition is well deserved. I cant believe Dreaming of Home is her first book. It reads like it came from the heart of a seasoned writer. The pacing of the story is superb; the subplots gradually intertwine until the tension is drawn so taut I thought Id choke! My emotions built as I got further into the story, until, by the end, I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I love getting emotionally involved in a book and Kayes writing easily drew me in.The romance was incredible but it wasnt sugar-coated. Joe and Meg are both struggling with very difficult issues ,which creates conflict (lots of it!) . That conflict begets actions and reactions that results in the plot spiraling tighter and tighter towards a hope-filled conclusion.Joes son, Davy is guaranteed to steal your heart and Joes dad, Bill Diaz, comes in a close second. In fact, Kaye has created a wonderful town filled with secondary characters that bring an added depth to the story. Two of them get their own book, the second in the series, in February 2011. Keep an eye out for Second Hand Courtship.
Glynna Kayes debut novel, Dreaming of Home, is delightful. From first page to last, I enjoyed every minute I spent reading this tale of love triumphing over trials. Kayes endearing characters captured me from the start. Former Navy man and widower Joe Diaz is after the same teaching position Meg McGuire seeks. He needs to prove he can be a good dad and provide for his young son in order to keep him from being taken by a scheming relative; shes building a new life after a disease and broken relationship left her hurting and in need of a fresh start. I rushed through this book eager to see Meg and Joe overcome the challenges keeping them apart and find the future the Lord has in store for them. If you like a sweet, gentle romance with heart, this story is for you.
I get REALLY excited when I read a book by a debut author as talented as Ms. Kaye, because if this is her first book, readers of romance are in for some of the best heartwarming Inspirational romance that Love Inspired offers. And, if Ms. Kayes debut book, Dreaming of Home, is any indication, its only going to get better and better. Ms. Kaye utilizes a light, breezy style to tell a heartbreakingly realistic storythat of burgeoning love between Meg McGuire, a young teacher who has battled and won against cancer and Joe Diaz, the handsome single dad next door whose wife died from the dreaded disease. With the finesse of a veteran author, Ms. Kaye draws Meg (and the reader) into the lives of Joe and his adorable five-year-old son, weaving an unforgettable love story with easy, natural dialogue, a unique and realistic plot and skillfully crafted settings that magically transport the reader to the charming small-town mountain community of Canyon Springs, Arizona. If you are looking for a tenderhearted romance that packs a spiritual and emotional punch, look no further than Ms. Kayes Dreaming of Home a dream-come-true novel for both Ms. Kaye and reader alike.
Glynna Kaye's debut novel is lighthearted, a fun read and the characters are totally captivating. Meg and Joe aren't your typical idealistic romance characters. They have real-life issues that threaten to keep them apart, but with a touch of humor and down-right love and faith, they overcome. Glynna Kaye is definitely an author I am going to keep my eye out for. Her writing gives you that coming home feeling.
