As I got closer to the end I was worried there weren't enough pages left to tell the story, and sure enough I was right. It was a disapointing ending in that the author resolved the issues that took the whole book to develope, in just a couple of pages. It left me wanting more. I wanted to know more of how it all came together. That said, it was a good story about how God deals with our addictions and our unforgiving hearts. Now I'm about to start reading Colt's story. I'll let you know if I like it the same. Colt's issue with guilt can be just as destructive as alcoholism and unforgiveness. Stay tuned...
As with any Love Inspired story, the heroine (vet assistant Gabi Newberry) meets the hero (in this case, cowboy Jess Holden) pretty early on in the story when he helps rescue Gabi and two calves from the path of a tornado. Gabi is back in Mule Hollow, Texas, having returned to her childhood home after she becomes a Christian and her fiancé, Phillip, broke up with her because of her new faith. She and Jess become close after cattle is found mysteriously dead on his family ranch and the two must work together to find what is poisoning the stock.
This is the twentieth Mule Hollow book by Debra Clopton, a continuation of the matchmaking theme of the rest of the series. Fans will no doubt want to read this to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. However, it works equally well as a stand-alone novel. It’s not great literature, but it is an enjoyable way to relax for a couple of hours.
Thanks to Love Inspired (an imprint of Harlequin) and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
Gabi Newberry finds herself in a predicament when the trailer she is driving ends up in the ditch. She is stuck with two calves and needs help! Who should come to the rescue but confirmed bachelor Jess Holden. Jess has no intention of falling in love but just can’t seem to resist the spirited Gabi. As Gabi helps Jess with his sick cattle they begin a friendship that is quick to lead to something more!
The characters in this book are so real to life! The grandmother of the main character Gabi is such a delight to read about! The interaction of Gabi with the other characters is heartwarming. I really enjoyed the aspect of her being a new Christian and having strong values. The setting was also great. Being in Texas and dealing with cattle made for some interesting scenes. The author did an excellent job of describing the scenes and even made the conversations read with ease.
I gave this book 5/5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction set in the west!
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
Her Lone Star Cowboy by Debra Clopton Book 2 of the Mule Hollow Homecoming Series Adela's granddaughter has returned home to Mule Hollow and after the handsome cowboy, Jess Holden, rescues Gabi Newberry the three matchmakers are on the job. Only Gabi does not want to be part of their plan. Coming from a broken engagement and choosing to follow God and devoting herself to knowing Him better...no matchmaking! Like these women ever listen. Gabi works with Susan Turner as a vet tech and is thrown into spending time with Jess as he is losing cattle to a poisonous plant and Gabi knows her plants.
Jess Holden is happy his brother Luke has found such bliss in marriage, that does not mean he wants it for himself. With a mother who left him when he was ten and an alcoholic father...Jess don't see the family life for him. And yet the feelings that churn within him when Gabi is around has him second guessing.
Gabi is looking for a man who will put God first...Jess is not sure God cares what happens in his life. When Gabi shares her past with Jess will all hope of love be shattered?
Another excellent addition to Debra's Mule Hollow collection. This is a series worth reading from book 1 to book 20! **Received through NetGalley for review
