Teaching children in the ways they learn words most effectively-with direct and explicit oral vocabulary instruction--this program features read-aloud stories and poems which are included within the lesson. Two-week lesson plans in thematically-organized units continually reinforce words and concepts to ensure mastery.
Teacher lesson plans include a material list with classroom supplies, page numbers for the appropriate concept cards, picture cards, student workbook pages, and blackline masters; a semi-scripted unit introduction; questions for each picture card; read-aloud story with bolded vocabulary words; and a daily lesson. The daily lesson cycles review and respond questions, extend & challenge activities which introduce additional words, comprehension checks, review, and assessments. Each lesson is also designed to include a "take-home" reproducible activity sheet with a poem or rhyme that's tied to the unit theme. A pacing chart at the beginning provides explanations of each day's tasks; each day is designed to take 20-25 minutes.
The included concept cards (12" x 14") and picture cards (5" x 7") help introduce key concepts and vocabulary words with the word/concept written on one side, and an illustration on the other. Both may be displayed around the schoolroom.
This teacher's book is designed to be used with the sold-separately Wordly Wise 3000, Book K, 2nd Edition. Neither can be used without the other.
