I like the subtitle for this book: Becoming the Intentional Mom Your Family Needs. As the mother of five (including one adopted at age nine from Russia), plus founder of Hearts at Home, Jill knows what its like to be stretched thin, but she encourages moms to be intentional in parenting their children in the many realms of family life. Organized around the metaphor of the many functions of a home (like pep rally, museum, hospitality center, cultural center), the book helps moms see that family life is more than meals and laundry. Her personal stories remind us that no home is perfect, but we have the heavens resources to do the best job we can. I especially liked how she mentioned keeping a knickknack collection that tells a familys God stories. Ive done that for years and was glad to know others had, too. Give yourself a boost, get excited about better ways to parent, and share a copy with a friend. Or get several friends together to work through the discussion questions at the end.
