Discovery House Who Calls Me Beautiful? Finding Our True Image in the Mirror of God

In this book Franklin skillfully chips away at the belief that a woman's body is more important that her character. Patiently pointing to Scripture, she convincingly shows that true beauty starts inside and radiates outward. It is this proper biblical understanding of God's design for women that empowers them to move beyond the cultural standards and the world's "ideal woman." When you see yourself as God see you, as He created you, suddenly you have the freedom to be the unique woman you are created to be in Christ. And you can then pass this legacy on to other generations of women.

Excellent message concerning our inner, godly beauty. However, I found a few points needing discernment. Throughout the book, Jer. 29:11-13 is used out of context (which isn't unusual). The passage is about God's use of and plan for Israel, not any individual. It makes a good analogy, but that should be noted. Several times the author writes about how God created us. God created only Adam and Eve and the rest of us came about by procreation in the natural course of events. God sees what we will be like, but He doesn't ordain it.Since being overweight was the author's main personal issue, aside from her excellent teaching about weight not being a reflection of one's worth I think she needed to emphasize that an overweight condition is usually the result of over-eating - gluttony - which is a sin, and the lack of self-control associated with it. There were some other minor issues, but overall the book is an excellent teaching resource.

I loved this book! I am currently on my second time reading it (it's that good) and I would recommend it to any woman with image issues. I have struggled with my personal appearance since middle school and this book has helped me to see my true beauty in the eyes of God, not the eyes of the world.

This was one of the best books that I have ever read. I have struggled with self-esteem issues due to problems in my marriage, yet this book clarified the fact that the Lord loves me totally no matter what others think of me.. Read this book...
