A Blessed Heritage Educational Resources Nurturing Christian Character through the Black Experience

Nurturing Christian Character through the Black Experience is a literature study that will give students a wide look into the history and experiences of people of African descent across the globe. Written from a thoroughly Christian perspective, learners will also be given the opportunity to explore biblical truths alongside and through the literature.

It is intended that students journal throughout the course, keeping their responses to the literature questions in a separate binder or notebook. Books are arranged chronologically, with each book's lesson including a character theme such as "endurance" or "patience," Scripture references, a prayer focus, and questions for each chapter. The included parent's guide section features the student page questions with answers, as well as an overview of the book.

Grades 6 & up. Loose-leaf printed pages. Books (sold-separately) covered in this curriculum include:

  • At Her Majesty's Request by Walter Dean Myers
  • I Thought my Soul Would Rise and Fly by Joyce Hansen
  • The Journal of Joshua Loper by Walter Dean Myers
