The notes in this comprehensive Reference Bible range over history, culture, linguistics, comparative religion, and other topics as well.
I have no other study Bible as interesting to read. The regular NIV Study Bible is very thorough but not as much so as this one.
The notes in here are written in a way that a literate lay person can understand them but they are never dumbed down.
I have heard that some buyers have had issues with the quality of the binding and also with print contrast. Since I mostly read this Bible as an ebook, these things don't affect me.
I read this Bible from Genesis through to Revelation while participating in the Read The NIV Bible in 90 Days program in the winter of 2013. I have other NIV Bibles but much preferred this one because of the notes, introductions, tables, and charts.
I own several Bible Handbooks & the extra material in this Bible is as good as what is in my Bible Handbooks.
As a print book, this is a weighty tome that might be hard for you to carry around so you might consider buying the ebook in addition to a print version.

I love this study bible. Downside it it very heavy and have not been able to find a cover/carrying case for it.

I bought this Bible for myself to help me gain a deeper understanding of the times, history, and background during Old Testament and New Testament times. This Bible delivers that extra insight and much more! The cover feels wonderful in your hands, very supple and the pages are slightly thicker than usual Bible pages, making them sure to last for many years to come. The font size is comfortable too!

Exactly what I was wanting for more historical depth without having to consently be going to commentaries while trying to read the Word. Only complaint is the color of the pages, and that is only because of my own weak eyes. Obre shading at the bottom of page is a little hard for me to read in some lighting situations.

If you love visuals when you are reading and studying, the Archaeological Study Bible is the ultimate aid. Not only do you have topographical maps, you get background info on just about every subject. As an avid Bible student, I could not be happier with the choice God led me to. No Christian should be without this Bible!!

I had the original Archaeological Bible before but the print was too much of a burden for my eyes....I just love this Large Print edition and that it is the 1984 edition.

1st - I had to order a second Bible due to the original order having had a printing error. This can happen to any book, so I didn't see it as any kind of a flaw or reason not to own. The operator I talked to was wonderful & I had the replacement Bible in my hands in just a few days. She included a self addressed, postage paid label which made it really easy to return. Excellent service in combination with an excellent product!
The maps, the colors, the information ...will take YEARS for me to fully appreciate all that has gone into the printing of this Bible. I'm looking forward to delving into the Word.

ps - it would be nice if imprinting was available.

A very good version of the Bible! The guilded edges and bonded leather cover mades great first impression at a reasonable cost. The thumbnail cut-outs makes it easier for those with limited bible skills. The background information on the text aids to a better understanting.

This is a wonderful Bible that I had planned to give to my son as his first leather Bible. He just turned 10. When I got it I put it up on the shelf to give to him when he turns 16. It is just too grown-up for him. I got him the Adventrue Bible instead and he loves it.

Best bible I've ever encountered. Beautifully finished with a really fine leather and gold lettering, very soft to touch and you can tell it will age beautifully like glove that you love. That's not all: the finish and design of the content presented is amazing and if you love graphics, artistic presentations, you will love this amazing bible. Content is itself must have taken a lot of research and there is up to date information on recent archaeological discoveries i.e the pool of Siloam.
I couldn't speak more highly of this bible, love it ! Only thing I might suggest would be some improved maps, plans of the Temple, Jerusalem. They are very generalized with little detail and for an Archaeological Bible, mapping and plans that can aid in study, are crucial to uncovering or unveiling further things. Maybe a later edition could have updated material, I would buy another !

I really wanted to give this a good review but I haven't touched this bible after my initial read when it arrived. I'm sure I'm missing great information but the type is very light against a cream colored page to suggest age, I suspect, to match its archaeological theme. I wish the publisher had chosen standard white pages with black type. The leather cover is of good quality; it feels wonderful to hold. If you have great eyesight perhaps it won't bother you but it didn't work out for me the way I hoped it would.

The Bible itself with tabs is beautiful. The archaeological and historical references are mentally stimulating. The "bonded leather" is of inferior quality. Cheap look; seen much better faux leather in Bibles I currently own. Finally, I've seen the same Bible in top grain leather at a competitor's website for $30 less! Unfortunately, since it was personalized I cannot return it. Live and learn & always do your competitive shopping no matter how rushed you are.

I could never have imagined myself giving a negative review to the word of God as I believe that Gods word is infallible and without error. This bible is packed with wonderful information and study commentary but this is where my problem lies.
Walter C. Kaiser Jr., who is the author of much of the commentary in this bible is proponent of Long ages and the gap theory which can be seen in his commentary from the very beginning of Genesis in this bible.
He is well known to support this as he did in a debate with Ken Ham where he supported his theory. He is currently on the board of an international bible study where the current study is Genesis and his influence is seen throughout this study.
For those who are looking for a good study bible which will support the inerrancy of scripture, I would recommend the Henry Morris Study Bible.
