Customer Reviews for John Wiley & Sons McGuffey's Eclectic Readers Primer through the Sixth Reader 7 Volumes

John Wiley & Sons McGuffey's Eclectic Readers Primer through the Sixth Reader 7 Volumes

This revision of McGuffey's Eclectic Readers features materials applicable to the various reading levels. Many of the stories, poems, and pictures appear as they did in the first edition, but with a more readable print and also a different layout. Each of the volumes is geared to a particular reading level, and provides vocabulary, phonics and cursive writing exercises. These are based on the original readers, with some minor revisions to make the language more understandable for the current times. Stories and poems have been added. There is a primer and six volumes of readers, each reader progressing to a higher grade level. Could be utilized for entire school experience.

We had purchased a set of McGuffey's Eclectic Readers years ago and they were "taken" by a young daughter who had started her young family which grew to five girls. We never saw those books again. When I saw them at your site, it was a given, we had to replace the Readers. The grandson who learned his ABC's and numbers and learned to read at second grade level before Kindergarden, remembered the books and pointed out favorite stories his Grandmother read to him.

I am more than pleased with these books. The illustrations are beautiful, and the stories are wonderful! I was looking for literature that would cover all of our homeschooling years for all my children. A wonderful return to character/moral stories centered around God's Word. The copywork excercises will be a wonderful addition to our school day! Highly recommended by MANY homeschoolers!

This product is excellent. Using phonics to introduce reading progressing to passages of Shakespeare. These readers can be used to teach penmanship, grammar, spelling as well as articulate speech and reading skills for grades K through 8 or 10. The early readers have wordlists for spelling, the later readers have author bios and vocabulary lists. A solid reading curriculum that gives glory to the Lord.
