This has been fantastic curriculum for my child. I found that the teacher's guide gave me all the help that I needed to guide my daughter through her work books, and math is my weakest academic area. You do need to purchase the student books, and we also purchased the additional worksheets, which we found helpful.

I bought this teachers guide, because my girls were already working these workbooks. Some of the things they had them working on did not make sense to me. I couldn't figure out what concept they were trying to teach or how and I didn't want to teach them the way I learned as a kid if it was different than they way they were teaching it, So I bought the teachers guide. This has been no help at all, it gives me the answers, but still does not explain what concept they are trying to teach or how to teach it. I have been using this math cirriculum since kindergarden and i think we will be switching next year. What is the sense of spending $40.00 on a teachers guide that doesn't explain concepts or how to teach it.

Six weeks into our first year of homeschooling and I'm not pleased with the Horizon's 3rd Grade Teacher's Book. It tells me what to teach, but not how to teach it. Another drawback is that the teacher's book doesn't have a copy of what the student is working on. While 3rd grade math isn't all that complicated there have been several times we have had to refer to the answer section to figure out what type of answer they are looking for in the student book. We do not have their manipulatives though, which may or may not make a difference. I just feel like I'm not really teaching him anything, he's building on what he already knows I hope. So far my son is doing well with it and we may tough it out this year, mostly because we can't afford to buy a new curriculum this year. Just not what I expected.
