A book every Christian should read. Like many of Eldredge's books, you will not get the full effect unless you read it honestly, and are willing to face up to what is really going on, deep beneath the surface, in your soul. It also helps if you are broken when you read it. This book made me realize how Godless my life had become because I finally admitted what an arranger I had become. I was desparately committed to arranging my life for my own happiness, and when all that came crashing down around me, this book helped me to see that this was God's design all along. It was His plan to bring me to the end of myself so that I could see that He was really my desire all along.

My life is so impacted by Eldredge. The Holy Spirit brought this book me at just the right time. Both for me and my daughter. After reading the book we are both going through the study guide. I work to implement the principles of the book. I long to attain the mind and heart set he talks of. The beauty of his writing coupled with his knowledge of the spiritual has helped me to see more clearly what letting go is about. and that we cannot find all we want in this world.

This book is deep... You can't read it in one sitting and you might have to re-read some of the chapters to make sure you "got it", but once you're done, you'll be free--free to desire and understand why some desires are met here and others in eternity. I can't say enough, it wouldn't do the book justice. You've got to read it.

John Eldridge wrote this book several years ago. I think it has been overlooked . His more popular books are Waking the Dead, The Sacred Romance and Wild at Heart. All are must reads, including this one Titled " Desire". This goes even deeper to understanding our hearts by seeing and understanding desire. We often see desire as something that will get us in trouble, cause us to sin and drift away from God. This isn't necessarily true.

John walks us through the fears we have concerning this topic - talks about the importance of admitting we have desire- what it's all really about - how we've been lied to and misguided to fear desire ...

But I think the big part of this book has to do with how we were created for so much more then this world - and nothing in this world will satisfy us.

I can't give this book enough credit for the insight and the important messages it gives.

Eldredge gives a freeing perspective on Christianity. It tells me as a man that my desire was God given and is not a "bad" thing to have. How different from what we are told in churches today! A great read!
