My dd doesn't really like school but she likes doing these. It is a great way to review mechanics of writing daily. It goes well too with the Easy Grammar by the same company. I like the approach of crossing out prepositional phrases first to find the subject and predicate of the sentence!

If you don't want to carry the whole book around, tear the pages out--the binding works for this--or get the store to cut the binding off.

I bought this for my 5th grade daughter. We did Shurley English 4 last year (which was very through and a lot of work) and thought Shurley 5 repeated too much to purchase. Instead I purchased DG to use as a review and so far it is working well. The lessons are short and are completed rather quickly. I have her do 2-3 lessons per day (I also have her only do the sentences and the writing assignments from Shurley English 5.). I'm not sure that I would feel it to be through enough if I hadn't used Shurely English last year. Again, I feel my daughter gained the knowledge using Shurley 4 and is keeping it fresh by using DG. One of the things I like in DG is the emphasis on editing. There are daily sentences that need editing and simple sentences to combine into compound sentences. I feel these were lacking in Shurley and am glad she is practicing these skills through DG. I also like that DG includes the answers to all lessons.

This book is worth the money if you are looking for a simple (no prep work for mom) basic, daily review for your child. It has the same categories for every day (punctuation, parts of speech, capitalization, analogies, sentence combining, etc). It gives my daughter (11) opportunity for independent work.

A nice, self-directed grammar book that is quick and easy for the child, yet contains a lot of grammar rules for practice.
