Revell Emily's Chance: A Novel - eBook

Her job at the Callahan Crossing historical society is just a resume filler for Emily Rose on her way to a prestigious position in a city art museum. But cowboy and contractor Chance Callahan wants her to stay. When a devastating fire brings them together, will Chance and Emily restore hidden love?

This whole 3 part series held my interest. Thanks for Jena's Cowboy too.
I wasn't sure I'd like it and did not read it right away. Once I read it I bought the next two. Liked the writing style and felt like I knew this family. They were like good friends. Sarah

Review : Emily's Chance - Book #2 of The Callahans of Texas Series - Sharon Gillenwater - October 2010
In Book #1 we saw Jenna Callahan reunited with lover Nate and married off to live happily ever after and in Book #2 we are presented with her brother Chance Callahan. Chance has always been the type of guy that has been viewed as a player, testing the waters - dating a few girls here and there of course unlike most players with Chance Callahan he is a strong christian male and has been following God's word and keeping his morals and values high and sacred. Emily Rose has just arrived at Callahan Crossing to help the town re-build their museum after a nasty fire destroyed their town. For her , this is a step up her ladder of success in the goal of one day becoming a Curator of a well-paid museum . For Chance, it is love at first sight -he has never felt this way about anyone and soon realises that Emily is for him "the one" , however once Chance discovers Emily's past and that her godliness is not as strong as his, will Chance be repulsed and take a step back or will he accept God's help to see past what he considers Emily's flaws and discover the true women he loves ?
Emily's Chance is a warm tale of hope and healing and what touched me most was the underlining fact of a community bonding together after a horrible tragedy ripped through their small town. It reminded me of the current tragedies that we have experienced in New Zealand recently with the Christchurch earthquake and its 1000+ aftershocks and now with the sudden and horrible tragedy of the 29 miners deaths at Pike Mine. Our Prayers go out to the families involved.

I ordered this book and another as a birthday gift. It was really easy to figure out where to put in the information for the gift certificate. The books came in very quickly and that made me quite happy. The book was very good and I'm glad that I ordered it. Thank you very much.

I love the characters in this series! They are so real and so on fire for God. I would love to know these people in real life! Emily and Chance just warm my heart. I love how Chance pursued Emily. Sometimes, while reading a book it will annoy me because the hero won’t pursue the heroine for some reason or another, but that wasn’t the case in this book at all! I love men like Chance. Willing to stick up for their girl, protective, compassionate, hardworking… However, he is still human and has his flaws, but he was willing to listen as God was teaching him and molding him. He would also humble himself and apologize when he was wrong. Emily! I was able to connect with Emily. Some of the issues she was going through are things that I am struggling with, too. Such as relationships, restoration, and other things too.
I just really enjoyed this book and if I went on about its good qualities, it would be way too long. I’ll just say that one thing that I didn’t LOVE was how a chapter would end in the middle of a date or something, but the next scene wouldn’t pick it back up. It would go on to another day (or whatever) and then mention how the last scene ended. That only happened a few times, and it bothered me because I felt like it was a sudden cut off and the author may have missed some opportunities. But, it wasn’t a big enough deal that I didn’t like the book or anything. I just felt that it could have been even better if some scenes weren’t done that way.

Emily has a worldly view of what success is. She has everything laid out and knows exactly what her plans are, but God has a few new things in store for her. Emily has faith, but she is depending on herself to succeed and is trying to live up to her parents expectations. This is a follow up of the Callahan family we meet in book 1, "Jenna's Cowboy". This is a family you will fall in love with. Emily meets the Callahans through the devastation of a fire that almost destroyed the town. She is here as a curator to restore the town's museum. Emily is not looking for love, but when Chance Callahan sets out to make her his bride her world begins to change. Chance is one determined cowboy. This book is filled with a country romance that will grab your heart and make you want to move to Texas! The Callahan family is a close knit family, but now secrets about the family are coming to surface. Emily has to decide what to do. Will her decision be the right one? Will she face her parents and find a real faith that will set her free of this world's idea of success? This book is filled with love, forgiveness and faith. I love how Sharon brings all the characters we loved in the first book back. This is one of those books that leaves you wanting more. I loved every page!!
This book was a gift from Revell for it's review.

EMILY'S CHANCE by Sharon Gillenwater is a inspirational contemporary romance set in modern day Callahan Crossing, Texas. This is the second in The Callahan's of Texas,(Book one Jenny's Cowboy), but can be read as a stand alone. It is well written with details, depth, and surprises. It has romance, secrets, faith, hope, healing, forgiveness, and letting go of the past. The characters are charming, engaging, and will capture your heart. It is cowboy meets city girl, and intends to marry city her. From the time Chance first meets Emily he knows she is the one for him. Chance, the hero, is handsome, an established building contractor, his family is one of the founding family's of Callahan Crossing, and believes God has sent her to him. Emily, the heroine, is rich, beautiful, wants to be a museum curator, has a five year plan for her career and life, has been hurt in the past, her mother was a model, and her father was abusive. Together, Chance and Emily, try to restore the town's history after a devastating fire a few months earlier, learn the value of true love, find a journal of Chance's great-great-grandfather learn his secret from years before, decide to burn part of the journal's info and comes to terms with Emily's past and their future. This is a heartbreaking story of love, faith, forgiveness, hope and healing. I would recommend this book especially if you enjoy cowboys, city girl, and rebuilding life and a town's history. I was thoroughly enjoying Emily and Chance's romance, Zach's development, and Grandma Rose until the Aidan and Margaret subplot. That left me thoroughly disappointed; and did nothing to enhance the story.

Chance Callahan knew from the minute he saw Emily Rose Denny, that she was the one for him. Even if it was in the middle of a wild fire that nearly destroyed his entire hometown. He knew she was the girl he would fall in love with and marry. Now he has to convince her of the same thing, that he is the one for her.
Emily Rose Denny has a five year plan. She has always had to succeed at everything she does. And her career is at the top of the list of areas of her life she must succeed in. She has to become a curator at a top museum, it is the only way she is convince that her parents will ever think she is a success.
Falling in love is not part of the five year plan, but maybe God has a different plan. Emily is working hard with the local Historical Society to get the museum, that was ruined during the fire, back up and running. Working thru what they were able to salvage and the new donations, keeps her busy. But not so busy that she doesn't notice that Chance is pursuing her.
Will Emily give love a chance? Will she allow her five year plan to be disrupted?
This book was a wonderful continuation of the story of the Callahan family, in the first book we meet Jenna, Chance's sister, now we are meeting Chance and hearing his story. Faith is a very important matter to Chance and it is very evident in this book. I truly enjoyed this story, it is a story that reinforces that real mean do love Jesus! Great job from Sharon Gillenwater! US $14.99 338 pages 4 stars.
