This is the best homeschool math program I have ever used or seen. We were frustrated with another program and I ordered this one. I like that the text book is not hardbound and that the paper is thinner; otherwise the books would be heavy, and it would cost a lot more. I think for the value of the education and the product; the price point is good.
The main text clearly explains the lesson, then moves on to a small practice of the lesson, after each lesson and practice there is a mixed practice page of 26 problems. With the basic facts warm up practice, the lesson, the practice at the end of the lesson and a test weekly, it has been a winning combination for us. There is not too much daily work and not to little, this program is well thought out, and comprehensive. There are math topics in this curriculum that are sometimes poorly covered in others.
Saxon math is a true blessing to any parent that doesn't have the time to pull together an entire math curriculum. I also purchased the CD-ROM. Which is nicely ordered to follow the lessons in the book; honestly I could have lived without it, but when I am busy I let my child use the CD-ROM to listen to the lesson, it's a luxury that's nice if you can afford it.

Having been a homeschooled student myself, I love Saxon Math :0)
I went through ACE, but would have done so much better if I'd have had Saxon Math!

After hearing great things about this program we decided to give it a try. I really like the set up of the Saxon Math. They explain everything in great detail so the student can see how the answer is obtained and there are lesson numbers next to each problem just in case you need to go back and review; no more wasted time looking through the textbook. I also like how they combine new skills with those already mastered. I think I've finally found my favorite math program!!!

My family orders almost all of our school books through CBD. Love the discounts! Always get our books very quickly. After using a couple of different math programs we decided to try Saxon. So far it has been our family's favorite. It has constant review so previous lessons aren't forgotten. It has given my daughter a better understanding of math.

We love the DIVE disc. My kids have never used it before and it has made Math the "highlight" subject of the morning. I think they just love having control over the computer mouse.

After many attempts at math with different grade levels and programs, we finally had our 17yr old dd tested for learning disabilities and found out she does have a learning disability in math. So far, we are well pleased with Saxon. She is grasping the concepts one by one and the review is so helpful. She has trouble holding the information in her mind long enough to work with it, but Saxon's method of introducing one concept at a time and reviewing previous concepts through daily practice are just what we needed!

I'm using this curriculum with a young man who was left choking in the dust in the standard school curriculum. He's able to work this independently at his own pace. Now that he's finally found a form of math instruction he can understand, that pace is quite quick!

Pages in text are a bit flimsy. Not sure how many kids it will survive. But the layout of the lessons is great.

We are moving to Saxon from ABeka and took the Saxon assessment test. According to the assessment I was to use 5/4 for my 4th grader. We are currently skipping ALL lessons as we are in the process of taking each test until we find one that is too challenging for my daughter... if she doesn't get 100%, we will go through the lessons. We are currently on Test 6 and she's aced them all, so I would say the assessment test is not very accurate... which means my money is not well spent as I will not get to utilize the entire curriculum. Seems like a reasonable enough curriculum but I won't know until I actually get to use it!

would love it if you could get the dvd's to go along with it for a little less. Easy program for your kids to set down and do pretty much on their own.

I love Saxon math. I love that they emphasize review, review, review. My algebra student has even learned to appreciate the repetition. The only thing I've ever disliked about the material is the difficulty in separating the worksheets from the books without tearing them.

This is an excellent math curriculum to use. At first it might be a bit confusing how to use all of the forms given, but once you get into a few lessons it gets so much easier. My fourth grader is enjoying this. You cannot go wrong using Saxon.

I loved Saxon 5/4. The scope was comprensive for the grade level. The component that was a success for me was Saxon Teacher, it presented a totally integrated teaching environment for my children allowing me to let them be independent with their math work, freeing me up to teach my younger children.

It would be helpful if the books each had a name on them. I need 2 extra work books, one for drills and tests, and an extra student book. I was confused as to which the student books were. It would be helpful if the title was on the front cover, example "student text" or "student workbook." Even the book distributor was confused, sending me the wrong order. (I had ended up ordering it correctly and the mistake was resolved.) I was dissapointed the student work book has no room for the work, and the student will need to copy his work on paper. We did Saxon 3 last year, the "tear out sheets" in the workbook were much easier for them to manage.
