I have been listening to SKillet since the early 90's when they were called Seraph and have stuck with them for a long time. I used to email Korey and John about helping out their tables at the concerts and they would call me and ask me to help when they were in town. I like their music their message and their purpose. I have seen where their music went from rock to a technica-digi-rock back to rock with forefront, ardent, and lava records. I have to say when they embarked on the hard rock scene they jumped into a challenge to keep christian rock alive. Awake is a half and half album. There are the good and there are the ballads. I mean i think they are trying to rediscover their roots and introduce thier older style while appealing to a larger audience. I agree that the lyrics seem off beat to previous albums but the message of Jesus still stays the same. As Korey, John, Jen and the new guitarist begin together, I hope their next album is a redeeming factor to this album. God Bless

This just may be my favorite cd of ALL TIME!! From the beginning of Hero to the soft, contemplative song Lucy, Skillet truly shows their improvement over the past several years. There is a reason this cd has become certified gold by the RIAA. There is no doubt whether you should buy this one or not. Still up there on the Billboard Top 20, Skillet continues rockin on the road and head bangin with this unstoppable cd. So....If you love heavy metal without irritating screaming and growling, you gotta check this cd out. By the way, wanna see something random? Go to godtube and watch the lego stop motion music video for Monster---pretty sweet.

After the great success of Collide and Comatose, this album had a lot to live up to. The question is, does it live up to these expectations or does it fall flat? The album starts out great with "hero", showcasing the new female backing vocals and some hard guitar, then moves on to "monster" a slightly harder number that sounds good but to me doesn't seem to have much of a message. "Don't wake me" is a ballad about losing a girl and dreaming about being with her. "Awake and alive", the title track, is a nice rocker, again with those superb new backing vocals. "One day too late" is a nice song about reaching out to others. "It's not me it's you" is a lower point on the album, a song that incorrectly says that every sin we commit is entirely the Devils fault not ours. "should've when you could've" is a non-descript breakup song. "Believe" is another love ballad. "Forgiven" is one of the best songs on the album, a love song adressed to God. "Sometimes" is the hardest song on the album with a more Collide sound. "Never surrender", one of the better songs, is about begging for redemption. "Lucy" is the best song on the album, a sad and sorrowful song about a friend of theirs who had passed away. Overall, the album has a solid sound and is certainly some of the best Skillet has to offer, though it is arguable whether it is better than Comatose or Collide.

Comatose was absolutely incredible... but Awake is almost as good! AWAKE AND ALIVE is so amazing (love those songs with a mix of heavy and a more classical sound). Other great songs include HERO and NEVER SURRENDER, but the hidden jewel is for me BELIEVE, which should probably be a future #1 on the charts .

My family and I recently went to see Skillet in concert last spring, and I couldn't wait to get the Awake CD! I love every track on it, but my favorites are "Hero," "Monster," and "Don't Wake Me"! Skillet is totally passionate about their faith in God, and they are not ashamed to let the world know it! The average five star rating does not do Awake justice!

Some of you people don't get it. Most of the songs here are metaphors, including "Don't Wake Me" and "It's Not Me It's You". I'll leave you to figure them out. I did and I'm 14. This CD is one of the best I've bought this year. I highly recommend it.

Some of the lyrics are kind of amateur. Like John Cooper couldn't think of anything that great to say. In spite of that, this is a good CD - songs like "Monster" and "Hero" and "Awake and Alive" make the album.

i pre-ordered this cd before the due date, & i dont regret it. it's an awesome cd, even thought i wish wish it was more hardcore rock like comatose. i was confused on why they would write songs like "it's not me it's you", "sometimes", "dont awake me" & the line in "awake and alive" saying "i'll do what i want cuz this is my life." but i realized he's (john l. cooper) is the voice for alot of people who cant speak up for themselves. like the kind of people who have messed up lives (& it wasnt their fault they have that kind of life) it was someone elses fault which made them turn out with w 'messed up life. thank you john cooper for writing these songs (that do not have CHEESY lyrics!!!) becuz i can really truly relate to these songs...gm<3

This is an amazing CD. But is not the best ever. Like "Awake and Alive"'s lyrics, "this is my and i'll do what i want." is not a very good Christian verse. The same thing with "Its Not Me its You".It is like saying, "I'am not responsible for actions. But that is just my opinion.

I bought this cd not too long after it came out. I really enjoyed some of the songs on it, some of them being more of my favorites as to others from their older cds. Overall I would've liked the cd if there hadn't been quite as many slower songs. I am glad I bought it though and will keep listening to the cd.
