A Realistic Look Into the Church
Date:November 28, 2011
I had this book loaned to me last spring and got covered by some papers. Discovered it on Sat and finished it today, Monday. Once started, it was a "couldn't put it down" book. One thing I will say right off is this book did not make me laugh or even smile. I found myself with many tears at times. Yes, this book was about genocide in Rwanda but it was also about what happened to get to the point of genocide. I found myself thinking, this could not happen here in the good old USA. The divisions that cause the atrocity in Rwanda, though different, are prevalent here as well. Geographical separation, US's reaction to the genocide. It is happening over there, not our concern. The author brings it closer to home by stating our (my) reaction to the murder in my city, happened on the other side of the tracks. No concern cause it happened on the other side of the tracks. Does the blood of the tribe, (political party, nation, denomination, color, etc.) run thicker than the waters of baptism. Christians, neighbors killing other church members and neighbors friends. The author gives us some insight as to what our faith may be all about. He also gives insight on what it may take to resurrect faith and the church. A better title may have been, "A Mirror Into My Faith and Life". Purchase this book, I think it just may change your thinking a bit. Very few books have made a huge impact on my thinking but this one sure did.
